Is the BassAthon worth the trip????

Post by Guy Kelley »

I live in the Delta area and was thinking about Anglers Marine BassAthon in LA County in November. I thinks its the 17th and 18th.

Its quite a drive down and was just wondering if any one has been there before and what ya thought of it ?

We will have the seminars and events this early winter so is there much difference?

Except to see Gerry in a grass skirt and coconuts maybe???????

Guy- If you get an invite... You will need to weigh in more than your last delta weight fo'sur.....

Go if you want to fish for the love of fishing and fellowship with fellow anglers, a chance to gring home a trophy of a lifetime -- and learning from everything you do on that trip/decision to enjoy your time in the outdoors before you no longer can.

Also-- I don't know of a TV channel that host any Sally Jesse Raphiel re-runs.... What better reason is there than that to get out !! Image

I live on the Central coast and it is still a drive for me. I went last year and stayed for both days (Embassy Suites just over the freeway) ....last year was fun, but seemed a bit much for 2 days. This year though should be even better and with different things going on too....it is basicly a whos who of tournament fishing ....and seminars, but there are many that are just there and not actualy speaking...promoting sponsors. Then there are all the products...this should be even better this year also...I just hope they give some better deals then last year.....The boat give away is a blast, if you stay late on Sunday. All in all I think it is worth it...But then I am a fellow nutcase...One word of advise, If you bring the wife, don't let her get bored in the first hour and leave and go to that Mall that is close by...and I thought I spent a lot at the Bass-a-thon

It's a fun show for sure. Lots of good representation from the smaller tackle guys that can't get booths at the larger trade shows. If you're into swimbaits, this is the show to be at.

The food catering is good, seminars are excellent too. I was there a few years ago when Rick Grover invited Bill Dance. What a hoot.

The boat bingo is always a favorite. You need to be there on Sunday evening for that. If you're free, try to make it.

Guy,

It really depends on what you want to get out of it. When I lived in SoCal it was THE place to be, first thing in the AM till last speaker on Sunday. Meet up with lots of guys, meet industry reps, see new baits, great deals on stuff, hard to find stuff excellent speakers, great boat deals etc.... the best memory I had was after hearing Rick Clunn speak on fishing for two days we were talking outside of the store and an Osprey swept down and ate a trout at the nearby Santa Ana river lakes, Rick looks at us and comments to the effect of, no matter what we do we will never be near the fisherman he is born to be.... Where else can you just sit around and talk to Rick Clunn about stuff for an hour in casual conversation? This has been true for Arron Martens, Shaw Grisby etc... If you have never been I believe it is worth it.

I have seen this show immulated but never near what Rick Grover and the guys at Anglers Marine put on year after year....god I miss it.

Guy,

Yes, it is well worth the trip. I live near you here at the Delta. I went last year and had a great time. The flights last year were dirt cheap.

Rick Grover from Anglers Marine does a great job every year at this event. Great seminars, food, tackle....You will see new tackle not yet released to your local tackle stores. Great time to talk with the reps.

Don't look at what it will cost....Just think of it as another tournament because I think I heard that they will be giving away a new boat over the weekend.

Wait until you see the new 2008 Champions.... They are awesome.

Totally worth the trip. If you can't get your fix the first day, go back for the second.

would it be worth it to fly down there? i think my plane ticket will be cheaper than the gas i'll spend to get down there in my truck! haha

if you go check out the black dog booth, there may be some custom painted lures there...
