What's the best set-up/gear you have ever found or snagged?

Post by DougH »

I've found a few good things, like a perfect old Shimano fighting rod witha Calcutta 200.

Anybody ever drag up a killer Loomis or anything like that?

I caught two ugly stick combos on the hudd last year. Damn lure catches everything.

Last year I snagged a heavy 100 lb test mono leader attached to a spreader bar with 3 Optimum swimbaits at the deep cat ledge at Casitas. Looked a lot like the rig found at Castaic a year eariler with 5 Ospreys.

Old school , I found the same back side of Island with Rego bait in the center.
Doug H., any chance you found that Shimano and Calcutta 200 around Paleens at Casitas ?
I also found an original Castaic hard bait at Castaic last year when the water was way, way down .

Hey Ron,
No, I found it at Castaic when they had the lake low.

I found a 24P stainless prop at Mead about five feet up the bank. It was in good shape. Probably lost in about 25 feet last year & just got exposed in August when I found it.

Found a Shimano Stradic 1000 on a Shimano Stimula rod when Castaic was at its low last year. It had been there awhile but it cleaned up (with a lot of work) just fine. Use it as a guest rod and reel for new backseaters.

However, does not make up for all the stuff I have lost over the side over the years. If Any one finds a Loomis with a Curado SF up near the mouth of Elizabeth, it is mine.

I snagged my own GLoomis GLX/Shimano Calais at El Cap last year. Probably doesnt count as a big find.....unless it is your own. Funny thing is I wasnt sick about it being gone. Just the two hours of fishing I wasted trying to locate it.

I was at Castaic, thought I hook a fish when all it was fishing line. I was pulling in the fishing line and it started to move. I fought a 4-lb LMB by reeling in the line by hand.

Fishing at Casitas and caught a Phoenix bait caster with a Calutta 50 and a chartuse spinner bait, thought I had a good one!

Fishing San Vicente a couple years back I snagged a G. Loomis GL2 with a Curado 200B on it. It was hooked with a bait hook to an old anchor line that still had the anchor attached.

I lost that very same rig at Fisher's the following year.

Easy come, easy go.
