What hooks do you guys use to rig the basstrix type baits? A weighted worm hook?

Yes- Like a Falcon Hook -- But as JasonC showed me... Straighten out a paper-clip and then fold it It sort of now looks like the dropshot sinkers -- Put tout line through that and then push through the nose pulling the string with it.

Tie your hook and insert then put the eye of the hook back up into the bottom lip.

Rigging it through with just a weighted sinker well simply rip the bodies.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

I love this idea thanks. With my limited use of hands I might be able to bait my own. Do they come unweighted?

A friend bought some. Neither one of us could get it to swim right. It rolled over to one side on the retrieve. We cut one apart and it looks like they were made by gluing the two halves together. One side is heavier, making the bait roll. We won't be buying anymore.

All you guy that are lookin for paddle tails the salt water guys have been usin them for years. Check out the D.O.A shad tails, or the bass assisain ones. They are a little different but I used them a lot for redfish on a jig head and some on a weighted hook. The D.O.As are my favorite.

That is so true brother. If we knew all the stories about them we'd all be pissed at BPS.

I've heard from a lot of small manufacturers that BPS will agree to sell a manufacturer's product but they require 50% of the sale's price (which is crazy!). Then if it sells really well, BPS's engineers will clone the product and kick the original manufacturer out to the curb and they keep selling the "knock off" version.

Legally this is fair play but smart manufacturers are starting to learn that they're better off building up their brand through other retailers (tacklewarehouse, etc) first and then pushing BPS to sell their products. This way consumers know they want the brand (basstrix for example) and not some "paddle tail looking plastic swimbait" which anyone can knock off.

The only one I have found to match the action of the basstrix is the money minnow...Same action, slightly tougher bait, same fish catching results. Try a pack, see for your self...tacklewarehous, limit-out tackle both have them in stock .

Ditto on the 'Money'. Works for me.

AS for knockoff, there wouldn't be so many if the Basstrix guys had production to meet demand.

Testing a local handpour 'minnow bait' now. Looks promising.

Can't find the Basstrixx? Neither can I. Try the new Moneys Minnow at www.moneylures.com. Great action. I rig them with a weighted Falcon hook in a 5/0. They have a hollow body, but you have to open them up with a small knife because they're sealed when you buy them.

I use the screw-in type of hook and those weights that crimp onto the shank of the hook.

In the case of basstrix, they are inviting knock-offs the way they are doing business. I don't feel sorry for them at all.

AS A EX BASSTRIX DEALER, I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IS THE CASE, IT SEEMS TO US IT IS THE SAME CASE AS HUDDLESTON WENT THRU IN THE BEGINNING, REMEMBER LACK OF SUPPLY THEN FOR A GREAT SWIMBAIT..................BASSTRIX IS DOING A BANG UP JOB FOR ONLY 2 PEOPLE MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTING THEIR PRODUCT.

They need to get more people then if they expect to grow, if you can't keep up with demand customers will look elsewhere. Also why is it that only one store seems to be getting all the basstrix? Seems they are producing more for a certain store than anywhere else. That store also makes you spend an equal dollar amount on other stuff to even get the baits.

Why buy them when you can make your own:

There's a guy who makes some great molds out here in AZ and also runs www.AZBASSZONE.com.

Enjoy.

I never waited for Hudds and I won't be waiting for basstrix either. I'll buy what ever is available at the time that fits the bill. If its knock offs then so be it.

Well I just got baits today.
Back to the original subject, These thing look great I am going to go out and try them right now. So much for working today!
They are a true 6" long and are like a basstrix on steroids if you dont buy some of these things I thing you would be doing yourself a disservice.

Well
I just got back from a small Lake in Marin County where I fish all the time. I tried the 6" ones and they work great. I would even dare say just as well as basstrix. I did not have the 5.5" ones which I will assume are closer in size to the Basstrix.javascript:emoticon(':D')

that the deal with A/CProshop getting all the baits is almost over and it is going to open up alot more distribution to more dealers. Still the best is the original. Rick G.

I think its great that there is finally other options to meet the consumers demands. Although I do believe at some point Basstrix will increase their output and catch up with the demand. At that time it will be in our best interest to buy the original product from the innovator as long as its equal or better then the competition. The competition copied a great product, but the innovator was responsible for its conception. I'm sure Bruce Porter will develop other revolutionary products in the future.
