If your looking to buy a boat, get a Ranger, but Bob's Marine has them and you might be able to get a good deal there.

Re: Any own a Stratos 176??
I just came from a Ranger 520. Yes I know, I loved the boat! But I didnt need anything that big. With my tow rig it was about 175.00 to take the boat out. I thought I had to have the best, fastest, biggest but after a year of the 520 Im ready to spend more on tackle and less on gas!

I hear ya, I would look around, I know I saw that Stratos had that one deal going for 25,000, but the problem is you cant get the engine it came with in California, so really the deal wasnt worth it. I bought a used Ranger from Nixon's Marine, but they are a triton dealership, but they have some great deals and took very good care of me. I would look out of state and look at www.nixonsmarine.com, talk to Jeff, very cool and really hooked me up.

I was in there shop the other day and had a good look at that boat. Pretty sweet rig. I am in the process with them getting shot down for a loan on a used boat. I think I will have to hold off till febuary to pay cash. Mike and the guys there are top notch and wont jerk you around.

Re: Any own a Stratos 176??
Have you considered a Ranger 188vs,,, not that I'm knocking the stratos, just another solid choice...... I'm runnin a 150 Opti and rarely run wide open except in tourney's...... and I'm still whining about gas $
Re: Any own a Stratos 176??
I know you're looking for fuel economy and all but that Stratos is only rated for a maximum of 75 horsepower. What's up with that? Most boats in the 17 foot range are rated for motors up to 135 hp or so and usually come with 115s from the factory. Does it have a weaker transom? Why does the 176XT have such a low hp rating?biteme wrote:I just came from a Ranger 520. Yes I know, I loved the boat! But I didnt need anything that big. Well thanks to all that replied. The c&c boat is priced much less then the other store.
Re: Any own a Stratos 176??
Im not really worried about it. Im not looking for speed. If I can go 35mph Im cool.fish_food wrote:I know you're looking for fuel economy and all but that Stratos is only rated for a maximum of 75 horsepower. What's up with that? Re: Any own a Stratos 176??
I think that 17'6" Stratos with the 75 hp motor will probably keep up with the 17'7" Ranger with the 115 hp motor. I know I will probably get spanked for suggesting that, but it is well known that Rangers are pretty heavy. I have the Stratos 196 with the 200 Opti and, regardless of the many other problems it has, this boat is fast! Scott Green thinks he passed me once in his Bass Cat but he is mistaken, I have never been passed. I would think that the smaller Stratos would be pretty fast too.

Re: Any own a Stratos 176??
I don't know what their current 17 footers average in speed but 17 foot Rangers from the mid-90s era usually top out around 50-53 mph with a 115 hp motor. It all depends on the load, prop and all the other variables of course. Does anyone here drive a 17 foot Stratos? I know that Stratos hulls are lighter so I'm very curious as to how their smaller models run in comparison (and not interested in a pissing contest or this brand is better than that brand type argument).getalife wrote:I think that 17'6" Stratos with the 75 hp motor will probably keep up with the 17'7" Ranger with the 115 hp motor. Re: Any own a Stratos 176??
The 176 Stratos is designed to compete directly with the aluminum Tracker type boats. It is very narrow, like the aluminum boats, and you really cannot compare them to the same size rangers. The 275 is also a 17'6" boat, but is wider like traditional bass boats and is rated for 115 hp. I have never been in a 176 but a friend of mine paid @ $17K and can go 38 mph with a 60 hp motor (I'd guess close to 50 if he put on a 75 hp). The 275 with the 115 should get you in the 60's and cost 21-23K. Not bad for the money... but my next boat will definitely be a Ranger.

Re: Any own a Stratos 176??
I love mine. I have the 75 optimax on it and it runs around 45 with two aboard and gear. Easy on gas, didn't cost a fortune and most important it fishes great. No complaints except the cheesy way the lockers open.

My boat is a 1995, and will run an honest 60mph (on the GPS) with a 150 horse Mariner (yes, Mariner... I re-engined the boat, got rid of the Junkson) before it starts to chine-walk. This is with one on board with a full load of gear and half tank of gas (about 10 gallons)fish_food wrote:I don't know what their current 17 footers average in speed but 17 foot Rangers from the mid-90s era usually top out around 50-53 mph with a 115 hp motor. I own one with a 75 opti. I've hit 48 on the GPS with just me and the dog along with a half tank of gas. Very nice ride for the size. The wife likes to read books on the back deck while I fish. It has been everything we were looking for.

See Mike Van Wagner at Capitol City Marine in Citrus Heights( 729-0590).
There is one on the showroom floor I think it has a 60hp on it, you will not get better service than the folks at Capitol City Marine.
Straight up folks that do not pressure you on a sale, Tell Mike and Mike that Mark sent you over.

My 17' Javelin is rated for a 115 max hp. I have a 90 on it and loaded (2 people) does 46 mph. GREAT on gas.
