100% BASS - Mcclure - My Sincere Appologies

Post by 100%BASS »

I arrived friday nite at 6:30 via southwest and while I didnt feel well I felt sunday wouldnt be a problem. I drove up to sonora to stay with the in-laws on saturday and again, while feeling under the weather, I thought sunday would be better. I tried to sleep on saturday nite and my cough kept getting worse and worse. At 2:30 am with my lungs burning, and still no sleep, I decided It would be a serious health risk for me to go. I contacted the official staff team who would be arriving early (thank you Ryan Cook) and they passed on the cancellation to everyone. IF ANYONE THINKS I MADE THIS DECISION LIGHTLY, They simply dont know me. I have run tournaments for 13 years and completely understood the ramifications of my decision. I APPOLOGIES to each and every angler who made the committement to pratice, and drive to this tournament. To those who have any questions, talk to one of the many anglers who called me between 4:30 and 6:30. To a man, their response was " you sound really bad, get well soon" I thank them for their concern. Anyone who would like, please contact me at 510-351-9083. This is my mom's house where I will stay this week trying to recover so I can run next weekends events. Again, my sincere Appologies to everyone who was inconveinenced over this event. I hope to see you at new melones next month. If you choose not to, I understand.

Bob,

I arrived at McClure to see several upset teams and all I could think was just how bad will this hurt our Motherlode boat count. Just a thought of possible free memebership for all the Motherlode members since the first tournament was cancelled do to unforseen reasons?

I heard you have pneumonia which can be life threating if not treated. Dont' be hard headed like me and go see your doctor and get well soon.

See you at New Melones

My .02, I see that people are upset at the way this tourney was canx. I can understand people being upset about the communication that was or was not used to inform people quickly.

I also see that the TD came on here and personally apologized for this and yet, Phil, you still have disgruntled feelings that you need to post some smartass remark about if it would be worth your time and money to prefish for the next tourney? If you are that upset then don't fish this circuit! Its as simple as that.

For Christs' sake, the man is sick, he came on here and apologized and that is not enough for you?

I say go find another pond to play in, and while you're at it, ask yourself if you've NEVER let anyone down on something.

Give the guy a break huh?

By the way, I don't fish tourneys I just fish for fun and read this forum, I post infrequently, but this one really struck a cord with me.

Oh yeah, I do hope you get better soon Bob, God Speed.

First and foremost, it's too bad that Bob is really sick. He flew from Texas to run the event and anyone who knows Bob knows that he'd never flake on the anglers. Take him up on his offer to call him. He sounds like he's dying!

For the anglers, it's unfortunate for the teams who practiced and spent a few dollars on gas. As a tournament fisherman, I know that some people were probably disappointed as well. However, a person's health and well being is far more important than a team tournament. Perhaps Bob needs to revaluate and have a better backup plan in the future.

That being said, anyone who still has an issue with their"wasted gas and expenses" should get over it and move on. It's not like he had any intention on pissing people off and if you are that concerned with wasting $50-$100 in gas, you probably shouldn't be fishing tournaments anyways.

Oh yeah, as far as giving the region free memberships, you need to understand that the membership fee you all pay is the only way Bob can afford to offer you the best paying circuit around. Remember 100% of your options and entries gets paid back to the field.

Not my opinion... just the truth,

Vince, Jigs and Brian --

SIMMAH DOWN .......

I KNOW how much BrothA Phil and BrothA Milk Man have spent pre-fishing for this tourney. To say they were on "a good bite" would of been a lie -- If not an understatemet of the Year on WB.... This Tourney "was theirs" to name and claim !! :D

They had collectively over $1k EASY for this one tourney. -- Anyone would be pissed if you were in the same boat that did not get to launch as them today.

I believe the biggest question is -- Where Is Your BACK-UP PLAN to prevent this from ever happing again. Yes some people do get sick, have sudden death in families, traffic accidents, act's of God against them .... But the fact remains -- MANY PEOPLE have made plans months, if not a year in Advance to fish a particular tourney and series.

If Bob only had a flight delayed becasue he could not get out of Texas -- Or land in California due to weather reasons ..... Would you still ask to be as Merciful if Bob was not sick AND DID NOT HAVE A BACK UP ORGANIZER

....... What is so theoretically, fiscally, responsibly and so COMMON SENCE hard about that ?????

And yes -- I will Ride to Hell and Back with my BrothA Phil any time - And he for me..... That is how we roll.....

But there will still need to be MANY answeres to ALOT of people that will need to be answered as well on their voicing what were involved in this "unfortuante incident".

FYI- The ABA Folsom and ABA Delta tourney TD's Both have a close working BrothAhood - AND a working PLAN for a back-up of each others back incase they for some un-forseeable event in the future-- The Tourneys go on as planned -- Just show up ....... And you can Guarantee that you will be fishing !!

I wouldnt fish the FPT if you payed my entry, paid for my gas, bought me all new rods and reels, gave me a $2500.00 gift cert to Bass Pro to buy all my tackle, Flew me to the launch in a helicoptor so I could sleep in, and found the most Beautiful hottest, horniest, NAKED blonde chick in the world to be my partner for the day.

Vince,

Since you mentioned it, you struck my cord.
I empathize with Phil and all the other teams that have looked forward to this event, both with time and lots of money. Running a curcuit from Texas must be a very hard feat without having the staff for any unforseen back-up for these type of situations.
The entry fee for each team with membership is roughly $400. Last year this event drew 89 boats and the winning team took home $9000 for their efforts.
I took your advice that you gave Phil when Bob cancelled the Don Pedro night events to a lack of more than 22 boats in 2003.

I am like Phil here, I hope Bob gets better, he runs a very organized tournament which must take alot of energy.

I wish you no ill will either, Vince. From a fellow tournament fishermans perception: I just feel that the folks that showed up this morning must have felt like the folks that went to the weigh-in this last summer at Clear Lake to see Fish and Game standing there with signs posted "Tournament is cancelled, dump your fish outside the 5 MPH bouy".

.... Not even in the Small Boat Div ? -- Just as I imagine BrothA Brian..... -- You Can't Toutch This Combo !! Image

Now If I could only learn and catch a fish on a Senko -- I would say Doubble or Nuttin.

Hope you get well soon, Bob...If it was pnuemonia or anything close to it, you made the right decision not to show...Wish you had a Plan B though...

J.D. from the Hook and I were the ones who drove up to Shasta that year and found Dee in a hotel room suffering from Double Pnuemonia...His wife was worried about him and J.D. and I thought we needed to go up there and check it out...Nobody, and I mean nobody, was there to help him...J.D. took his truck and boat back to Brentwood, and I drove Dee to the Hospital in Martinez from Shasta...They say he was within hours of something very bad happening...

A person's health is way more important than any bass fishing tournament...With the bad weather and all, who knows how worse Bob could have gotten had he tried to make it...Wish you guys could have been in the car driving Dee back to Martinez...I just kept praying we'd get there fast, seemed like forever...This all happened in the early 90's...

Thanks J.D. and keep kicking their BUTTS, DEE!...

Phil was upset and I probably would have been to considering the loss of money and effort he put out . He then appologized for what he said so give the man a break....
