New Angler wanting Tournament Tips.
New Angler wanting Tournament Tips.
What would be some of your tips and Techniques for a New Angler to try on his or her first Tournament? Provided everything is normal and it is the Month of January on Lake (McClure, Don Pedro, Melones). also with some type of time line. Right now I know nothing so I would probably start with a Spinner bait first thing in the Morning Off of points and Mudd lines. Then try a few Crank baits and Jigs for a little bit in the same type of Area and then if nothing move out to deeper water and go to a drop shotting setup to get my limit. Once I have reached my limit I would probably go to my bigger fish confidence bait or try a swim bait that I have not had much luck on. If anyone has some suggest that would be great. Please Pm me if you like.

If you got the time it would be worth the money to hire Johnny C for a day. He can teach you more stuff in a day than you could figure out in many trips on your own.

Fish with the baits you are comfortable with, have fun, don't expect to win anything. Keep a positive attitude, and learn from it!

At the end of the day don't be afraid to ask other anglers how they caught them.
Stay for the weigh-in and listen to the top finishers.
As for the fishing day what you said sounds fine if thats what you are comfortable doing. Don't try new things on tournament day (such as baits you have never fished) that should be done during pre-fish.

I would rather jog home from my own Vasectomy than spend Saturday at the mall.

another vote for the Spookman Johnny C, money well spent
most club tournaments will let you fish your initial event as a guest to get the feel for things

Best advice I can give you
If you are thinking of becoming a tournament angler. GIve me half of the money you are going to spend next year I'll kick you in the heuvos and we can call it even. You will feel the same way now as you will at the end of the year and at least have half of your money....
On a serious note I am not sure where you live but if you are in the Sacramento area Folsom Bass Team meets every first wedensday of the month check us out www.folsombassteam.cmo

Thank you for your responses.
Re: New Angler wanting Tournament Tips.
Booking a trip with John is a good bet, he will get you started in the right direction. Main thing is keep your head in the game and do not get discouraged. Tournaments are all about making good decisions on the water and this skill just takes time to aquire.
Good Luck!
