Co Angler Bait Bags?

Post by Mule »

First off I want to say this is a great site. I am new to the west coast and this site, grew up in the midwest. I have read lots of good stuff here. Thanks for the countless hours of entertainment.

My question is what do you guys use or have seen used that you like in a bait bag for fishing as a coangler in tournaments. I am in the process of looking for one and am looking for some opinions.

I will be fishing the FLW tourny on the Delta in march and a few TBA and BASS events this summer as a coangler.

I am leaning toward the Bass Pro XPS bag that holds 5 boxes and doubles as a back pack but have not seen one in person.

Any opinions?

Thanks

I got a Plano Flipsider in a contingency package that I won from Bassfan. It would have never been anything I would have shopped for because, frankly, it looks hokey. Far from it. I can store all the hardbaits I could ever see throwing in multiple days worth of backseating in the outside flip cover. Inside I use two small Plano 3600 boxes for my weights and hooks. Actually the case will hold a ton of the 3600's. I choose to use just the two and it leaves me a bunch of room for plastics, culling tools, etc. It makes a very compact load to carry and gives me everything I need. It fits under the center step on most boats so you are not cramped.

You need to talk to Steve Melander at Berserk Baits. He can customize you a bag the way you want. Lifetime warranty. Put your name on it, all kinds of trick stuff. I also highly recommend his rod sleeves for co-anglers too. They have a protective tip option too. Check out his site www.berserkbaits.com.

Try these at 4 bucks each, then get yourself a duffle bag and your good. I had an entire garage full of crap, ordered 20 of these now I am down to 2 duffle bags.

I highly recommend the rod sleeves as well, you wont damage your rods and will spend less time untangling your rods...

I recently did some shopping for a new bag and ended up with a bag made by SnagProof. Below is a link to Tackle Warehouses web page with more info. I think its a good bag with lots of features for a good price.

before I got a boat I used several 'tackle bags' and imho a single zippered tool bag ie gatemouth, or a single zippered duffel or hockey bag was the quickest to get in and out of. I wouldnt suggest taking a hockey bag full of gear on someones boat as a co angler but the gatemouth is nice and compact and holds like 5 plastic plano boxes and lots of pockets for stuff on the outside and still room for plenty of bags of soft plastics. Hockey bags rule for loading/unloading YOUR boat, one trip (if you can carry it all) and your done, my $0.02

Believe it or not Wally World has a great bag, I think the name on it is Okeechobee. I used it for 2 years. But after the ISE and hearing the panel discuss bait bags for co-anglers; I stopped by a booth at the show and picked up a new bag and a fanny pack on the advise of my good friend. I went home, reorganized and love the new set up.
