When do the Mussels reproduce?

Does water temperature trigger the reproduction response?

In California they developed a way to stop the fruit fly from reproducing by releasing sterile males into the environ ment can a species specific contraceptive be developed to prevent the larvae from being produced?

There is already a contraceptive available, but mussels don't have any hands, so they can't roll them on!

The quagga mussels have been reproducing year round in so. Cal. Unlike the great lakes we don't get cold enough for them to stop. They are reproducing very slowly right now but the peak in from about April thru Septmember.

There are a lot of people looking at various control measure but nothing has been proven completely effect yet.

Thanks Mike I just found this and was also going to answer it.
In the great Lakes the highest activity months for them are June, July and August from the info I have found.

Sorry guys I was out of town today.They have measured Quagga reproduction rates for the last year (since they were found
in Lake Mead). Samples have so far reveiled that larvae and veliger
populations were highest in June and July. More data needs to be
collected to confirm those results. However this data does correspond with reproduction rates of Quaggas in the Great Lakes.
Looks like Ray and others have done their homework.
