Shell Cracker line recommendations

Post by Terry Smith »

What line do you guys throw for say Shell Crackers or Lunker Punker? I will be useing them at the delta and Clear Lake.
I am looking at trying some new baits( to me  ) and want to get the right line to make these $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ A$$ baits perform properly.

Thank you, Terry

Do you tie the braid directly to the bait or use some sort of leader?

Clips? The shellcracker comes with one, do you leave it on or take it off?

Shellcracker...keep the clip on, it is pretty noticable loss of action when you have a direct tie with stiff braid or heavy mono.

Braid is pretty much what you need for the cracker, I recently ran it with some 30 lb P-Line CXX and it just didn't feel right, too much loss of contact with line stretch (or more correctly the memory of the line throwing a few coils between me and me lure!

I tie the braid directly to the Punker with no leader material. On the Shell Crackers, I do use the big clip that comes with it. I've also, on a couple of the baits, replaced that clip with a big O ring. With the erratic walking and waking action of the Cracker, I find it is best to have that clip or O ring on there for the best possible action.
