Berryessa tomorrow, any tips?

Post by fishergal5 »

I am taking a guy out who is new to bass fishing and we will probably stay in the narrows, due to the expected wind coming in from the north and west. And I am most comfortable in the narrows. My first and only time fishing this year was a zero! Any tips would be appreciated greatly!

Thanks in advance.

I would throw watermelon or green pumpkin hula grubs, shakey head worms and drop shot. It's still a little slow out there but you should get bit. Good luck.

Fish steep banks with smaller points coming off of them on the east side of the narrows try and hit shade pockets on the side of these little outcrops. the darter head will usaully get you a little better fish than the drop shot this time of year.I use Aarons magic or Margarita Mutilator. Fish anywhere from 2 to 25 feet is where I have been getting them. The 2#and 3# fish should start showing up pretty regularly soon if not tomorrow
Personally I would drag a swimbait and jig all day but the worms will get you fish for sure.

I fished last week in the staied in about 20-30 feet using 1/4 darterheads w/ salt river craw (red and green) and warmouth worms we caught 20-30 fish no real big ones around 1- 2 1/2 pounds but fun !!!!!!

Thanks all of you.

We went out Monday instead of Sunday due to the strong winds. It was a perfect calm day with a slight breeze. Due to it being a work day for my other friend, I ended up taking a woman who had never caught bass on artificials.

Never discovered a pattern, we were fishing the afternoon bite, and the water was cooler than I expected in the narrows, 46 to 48 degrees from my trolling motor temp guage (deeper water). So I tried fishing 2 sides of the big island where it was warmer water by about 5 degrees, no luck there. Back to the narrows in the late afternoon and she got 2 fish on a texas rigged 4 inch black and red lizard. I got one on a medium diving orange crank bait. All off of points. She was happy. I would have liked to catch a few more!

All in all, I love Berryessa at this time of year, with the green steep hills.

So thanks again all.
