Need some advice on how to match up rods i'll be gettin in the near future. I would like some feedback on what ratios to use for:
Flipping & Pitching/Frog/Small Swimbait rod (735C)
Spinnerbait/Topwater/Senko rod (733C)
Thanks.

Re: Gear Ratios For...
in my opinion it is all preference
some like the faster gear ratios to pick up slack line faster like if a fish is running at the boat after it hits your spinnerbait
some like slower to keep them from reeling too fast (crankbaits mostly)
all my reels are 6.3:1 and I just adjust the speed of my winding

Re: Gear Ratios For...
I really only use about two ratios: 6.3:1 or something along the lines of 5.2 or 5.1:!. My slower reals are really more for dedicated sticks than anything. I use a 5.:1 style on big deep divers, most swimbaits to get the most power out of the reel and ease the work my arms and hands do, and sometimes slow rolling a blade during winter or early spring requires a 5.1. But if you want the most verstatility, 6.3:1 is the way to go. All my plastics and other reaction baits besides SBs and deep divers use this ratio. You can fish fast without much effort, or you can just slow down your retrieve. Some guys like the newer 7.1:1 reels. Personally, I own one for a jig rod, the newest Daiwa Megaforce, and I really don't use the handle. Since the Megaforce has the twitching bar feature, most of my retrieves are completed using the bar. BUt the nice thing with the 7.1:1 when fishing a jig or worm, especially in target or structure fishing where you want to be able to get the bait out of the water fast, the high ratio really helps get the bait in quick. But overall, I still think a pair of 6.3:1 will fit your applications best.
Re: Gear Ratios For...
I just stick with either 6:2.1 6:3.1 or 6:4.1. Like what has been told to me you can always slow down your retrieve but you cant speed up your reel. How ever I think a 7:1 is a bit to fast(for me that is) and if you get a donkey and it starts swimmin straight at ya and you have a 5:3.1 your going to have a hard time catchin up with her and chances are you will lose that fish of a life time. I hope this helps!

I wish I had an extra $200 right now cause at Mel Cotton's, no sales tax and 20% off, I could get a Zillion for $50 bucks off. But I will own 2-3 of them before the end of the year.
