Clearlake Inspections, What a JOKE.

Post by Rod Martin »

I assume, tackle store personel recieved some training before starting this. Like a lot of others have stated. I recieved no inspection. Just signed a form and put my sticker on the boat. Boat was not looked at.
If Lake County is going to do inspections, they could at the very least, do them correctly.
Again, another waste of taxpayers money. Hope they dont spend a lot on decon. stations . based on what I saw, Lake County wo'nt need them.
This rant is for WB. Monday I will call lake County and say the same to them.

That form you signed might have been a affidavit. Did you read it?

Had an "inspection" Sat at Camanche. Guy looked in my livewell, walked around the boat, touched a bunker and signed me off. Never looked in bilge. While I was glad to get going, I wondered at the effectiveness of the whole effort. My receipt is good for seven days. How do they know I won't make a run to S.Cal this week? Seems like a waste to me.

I'm not too worried about what I signed. Thinking I was going to a real inspection[8 years Army]. I had my boat pressure washed in the bilge area & shined, everything, was ready. After reading all the info on Lake County and reinspections if boat left, I rented a storage place there for the month. My club has a outing there last of May. The storage still works out. Differnce in fuel towing boat up from Ripon will pay for that.
What I cannot see, are these inspections stopping anything from getting into Clear Lake. And with the number of boats, no one would ever be able to trace it back to one boat. Right now it just brings fishermen to tackle shops that inspect so maybe they will buy some tackle. If we're just signing a form, download off the internet, sign it and mail it in. Get your sticker in the mail and avoid the lines and extra stop for inspection.

Does anyone from Lake County come on WB, it would'nt take long for them to see which inspection stations are doing inspections.

We launched at Lakeport, while launching I did watch an inspection just up the street. Guy from the store came out with a clipboard, checked the boat filled out form, at least looked like he was doing a good inspection.

I'm sure things will gradually change so the inspections will be better. I think governments have to first figure out the logistics and financing. In the meantime they'll promote awareness by doing it this way.

I do think it is funny how everyone is so worried about bass boats bringing mussels into the lake. I would be a lot more concerned about wakeboard boats. How are they supposed to check the bladders on the inside of the boats. How many of these boats go south to infected lakes for spring break? I do believe all boats should be inspected but it does seam that bass guys are taking the most heat.

Greg, I hope you are right. But I think once a person or company starts something, they contuine that way. Besides having motels or tackle stores doing inspections is a lot like the old Fox Guarding the Hen House. Not saying any would but failing a boat could very well take money out of their own pocket.

I'm thinking that Ranger Aaron (original inspector for Casitas) might be looking for a new gig, and I can assure you if you are looking for a thorough inspection he's your man! Someone may want to look into bringing him up North???

This answers the questions I was going to ask. I just got back from a weekend at Oroville and really gave the bilge and wet storage a good cleaning. I can't believe all the plastic that finds it's way down there. Chris, I found your lighter  !

It sounds like I over did it. I pulled batteries, cleaned REALLY GOOD with a bleach solution, and then dried everything with compressed air. If any of those clams get in that lake, it ain't from me.

As much as I think these inspections are a waste of time and money, I was hoping they may do some good. After reading this it seems as it's business as usual. The kind kind of stuff that really gives me my faith in Government and some of my fellow men

I personally think it is more about educating and making people aware of how to maintain your boat to prevent the transfer of the invasive species , but I would not take a chance that you won't be inspected [ your boat ]by Mr. Anal with the rubber glove .

Nobody looked in my bilge, either (I'm a local)...You signed the affidavit declaring that your boat was clean & hasn't been in any 'danger zone' lakes. What reason to look?

There are no Quagga Cops. The guy at the baitshop doesn't get a raise or a helper to cope with the new County Regs., the flood of questions & phonecalls from concerned anglers. No new Sherrifs' boats on the lake to enforce. No decontamination stations for boats coming from 'danger lakes'. We know all this already...

Perhaps the ultimate downfall of this program will be that it depends on the honesty of fishermen: People who are somewhere between politicians & weathermen on the 'de-liar' scale...

I understand the feelings, but this just what happens when 'concerned citizens' get involved in a 'cause', but have little practical knowledge of what's involved in the implementation of their wishes. Now that it's a County ordinance, we'll just have to be patient & hope the means to cope follows shortly...(holding my breath...)

If your boat is coming from or registered in an area that has mussels they will do the inspection. Say ur registered in AZ, they do the full inspection.

That is also far from the truth. I'm from Quagga City (San Diego County) and they did not inspect mine what-so-ever two weeks ago. It could have been full of the suckers, but it was not.
