Re: casitas inspection
Hey Ironman,
Please post after your inspection. I would be interested to hear how invasive the inspection process will be. I would imagine it will be a lot like the last strip search we had there. I'm sure it will be a lot tougher due to the "Douche Baggerly".
Please let us all know.
Thanks

Re: casitas inspection
Just a word of warning that I was told yesterday that they will be blowing compressed air through all drain and pump lines and if ANY water comes out you will not pass inspection. I think you will be quarantined for an additional 28 days but not sure. As bad as it was before this is going to be even stricter. They said they are telling everyone as they schedule inspections but just in case I thought I would post.
Remember Clean and completely dry.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Re: casitas inspection
SUCKERS! There will be no more than 50 of the first 300 boats in line pass inspection. Nothing like getting requarantined by an inspection designed to keep you out
I've got ten acres for sale on the moon if anybody is interested?

Re: casitas inspection
yeah I guess yah gots 3 choices:
1. don't fish for 3 weeks(should be bone dry by then!
2. bring your boat to a body shop that bakes on enamel and have your boat baked ( remember to remove all contents you wouldn't like cooked).
3. hook 2 high output hairdryers to the inside of live wells and then install a vacumm on the exit on and off for a minute at a time till it smells like toasted fish cakes from the residule scales in the pipes that got past the screens. oh I forgot #4. buy a new or used boat you'll only plan to use at Casitas so you won't have to do 1,2 or 3 again!!!! Just A thought, no joke intended. If anybody else has another way to dry all the piping for the well system or other drains in their boat please post it here so we can get going foward.

Re: casitas inspection
None of those are acceptable or effective...
Even a month in mid-summer wouldn't be enough to dry out the standing water in the piping, I don't believe.
Get a good wet/dry vac and use it in both directions. Be sure to pull your screens in your livewells and scrub them off with a steel brush, then vacuum them out. Turn your pumps on for a few seconds while you do so, and I'd expect you will get the water out. You can also blow compressed air through to be sure you'll pass their test. Also may want to consider removing the pump(s) so there is an unrestricted passageway?
Real pain in the arse, but at least you know what they'll be expecting. Also, it will be a one-time anal examination, so it certainly would warrant the extra effort in order to be cleared to get on Casitas again.
Good luck!

I don't think you will have a problem finding a shop in Ojai or a neighboring community that specializes in "Baking"

Re: casitas inspection
"IT CAN BE DONE"
A good quality shop vac will dry out all your wells, hoses and bilge. You can use it to blow from one way and vacuum(suck) the other. Have someone help you to insure you are getting air through all your livewell and pump out hoses. Modify the vacuum attachment to use a small hose to stick through your drain plug to vacuum it out. Do the same thing to your motor.
You will also need to empty all your compartments and vacuum them out, wipe down or wax all exterior surfaces of your boat.
This is a ONE TIME inspection, take the time to do it right, your boat may appreciate the fact that you cleaned it up so nice it will allow you to catch a couple of fish.. he he he

IF you have a TRITON, and it has the pull- out ladder in the port side, make sure to pull it and drain it of any water along with the other 100 things ya gotta do!!

Re: casitas inspection
No way mark once you are inspected you are doomed you can't take the tag off to fish another lake. It's ten day after inspection and then back in line if you remove your tag.

Re: casitas inspection
No other lake charges anything. After you are done fishing, they put a tag on your bow eye and attach it to the trailer. All you guys can have fun paying $50 to have folks tear your boat apart and leave it sit for 10 days at your home. And when you come back to fish the lake for the second time, you better not have any water at all in the boat. One guy took his out of the marina to get a cover made and when he returned to put it back in the water, they found some water somewhere and kicked him out for 28 days plus an additional 10 after the next inspection. This is all after his original inspection that allowed him to keep the boat in Casitas on the water. Casitas sucks and they can kiss my azz.

Cachuma will be considering new fes soon. right now there is no change.
Re: casitas inspection
Passed inspection today and it's not difficult, all you need to be spotless clean and absolutley dry.
Suggest that you take the time to wash your rig, both boat and trailer. The inpection is a two step process; fisrt a visual inspection of the boat and trailer, all compartments empty and free of any debris, so vacuum them. The livewells and battery compartment and pumps are their main targets. One of the inspectors discovered a piece of fiberglass under one of the rubber drian bushings in the dry storage locker and I had to explain that the boat manufacture didn't deburr the hole before installing the bushing, it wasn't a sliver of wood, they look very close.
The second phase is the air pressure test of all the hoses that drain the bilge and live wells, the sculper valve and drain plug hole.
The requirement is no wet spots on a piece of paper placed in front of the line port when the opposite end is pressurized with air. My problem area was the pumpout pump didn't drain fully. Every time I blew out the line at home, it would blow out a drop of water. I had to take off the hose and pump and clean out RTV silicone the factory managed to get into the hose nozzel and clean it out before it would dry out, glad that I had tested it before leaving for the inspection.
If you plan to fish multiple lakes, don't waste your time and money with this inspection process every time you go to a different lake.

That place blows. It's a shame what they have done to that place. What used to be a special place has turned into an absolute joke. I totally understand the guys (locals) putting up with the B.S. to just wet a line at their home lake but this is a joke.

Good info to know. I got my call from Ranger Jeff today. I am #336 on the list so either they are working through them real fast or many on the list are backing out. I haven't done tourneys since 97/98, (I sucked anyway), so Casitas every weekend is cool by me.Oldschool wrote:Passed inspection today and it's not difficult, all you need to be spotless clean and absolutley dry.

Re: casitas inspection
WORD!!! I won't be back on my boat until sanity is restored. I'm glad they're at least accommodating the locals, as I have several friends who will benefit, but for the majority this is just not feasible. Too bad they can't arrive at a workable solution for the majority of the bass-fishing community, as we're not the ones who should be punished, but cest la vie... hopefully one day soon! Until then, we won't be spending our 17 days or so at the Casitas campground any longer.Kevin wrote:That place blows. It's a shame what they have done to that place. Re: casitas inspection
Throw them all a curve, just show up in 14' Aluminium boat's.No livewell, hose's nothing but dry Aluminium.
This may be a stupid question but what are the chance's the compressor tank has condensation in it and they blow thru the hose's and that water come's out.

Re: casitas inspection
I passed with flying colors but I have a freind that failed with a teaspoon of water found under engine mount. For the people that fail why can't the lake staff put the cable with lock with THEIR seal on and send him home for the 28 day quarantine period? Mussels do not live for longer then that (RIGHT). If the seal is as good as they say this should work for them. The water came in when he cleaned his boat.
Make one cast for me.
Re: casitas inspection
Glad you guys can get back on...BUT where does the $50 go, hopefully not on a tamper tag. Doesn't seem right some how. Reminds me back when the state charged you an extra $300 for registration, if your car was from another state. Later the state payed it back finding it was to be illegal to do so.
I guess I don't understand, sorry

Re: casitas inspection
Not trying to stir the sh#t but still don't understand why they are charging $50 for the cable, can I turn it back in if they close the lake again or I decide to move?
Does anyone know if we will get credit on our annual pass for the past 3 months for the lake being shut down? (I know this is a stretch but I had to ask for my amusement)
I'm still amazed...

12:30 inspection Saturday. 90 mile trek each way from here. Boat and trailer have been gutted, sucked, blown, scrubed, wiped, checked and double checked. $100.00 in gas + $50.00 for lock and cable. Hope it passes so I can spend my summer weekends without the summer "LAKE LICE" at Casitas.

Sucked and blown huh, kind of makes me want to be a bass boat in need of inspection...........hahahaha.
Re: casitas inspection
Tons of traffic on the way to casitas today, 2 1/2 hours from LAX area to lake. 1 1/2 hours comming home from inspection. Passed no problem - very simple inspection. Saw several turned away while waiting. I will be back to Casitas in 10 days. It will be nice to get away from the wakeboarders again.
Re: casitas inspection
Have fun.
$50.00for the cable.... I know why.... They have to get some income somehow. They lost so much money when they closed it they have to pay the rangers somehow.
Brian Roney and Bag him to the trash Baggerly came up with another money maker since camping and fishing income is so low.
Like I said they will not see a dime from me.
I hope those that were turned away don't go back.
I hope most of you feel the same way.

Re: casitas inspection
Whatever -- I know I will enjoy a nice quiet lake all summer long -- free of all lake lice unlike the rest of so cal, no insane tournament pressure on the fish any more. 2-3 tournaments every weekend was insane. Really made it tough for the fun fisherman. Multiple bass boats on every spot all day. Should be a great summer!!! $50.00 one time fee - no problem here.

I think that Ray and all those who pleaded with the powers not to do something rash are entitled to the sour taste in their mouths. Those that can will comply with the regeim but as for the way these jackholes interupted an American way of life and tradition I will never ever forget that this all started in my backyard. I know there are many folks still working in the background trying to mend the fences and I am proud of all they have accomplished in the ways of inroads to systems that can/could become what is in store for the future of all the drinking water lakes. If some of us take it personal it is because I think we were and are constantly frustrated by those who cannot/will not see the forrest for the trees. I have not seen anything come to fruitituion that was not recomended prior and during the closure meeting. I hope Larry Elshere is thinking about running for the water board. Everytime I pass the water board building I wonder what it would really take to get onto the board and start making some effective changes. Not something to take on lightly I would think.
While you won't be messing with lake lice be forwarned...The average Casitas bass will not be cooperating with most anglers during daylight hours for the next several months...and you can easily get pushed off a spot by the packs of rental boats and folks looking for shad. I will say that the class of boats now on the water here is down from the big buck dreamteam high gloss to whatever floats and is serviceable. I continue fishing there because I found a way that works for me. If it does not work for others I don't begrudge them I am totally sympathetic to their plight and wish them continued sucess on their endevours. How the changes can be encorperated into a system that is user frendly has yet to be hammered out...When it is hopefully this will just be a sidenote in California but by the sounds of rumblings in Santa Clara county and else where. It seems just a pipe dream to think it will go away without somemore serious leg work by us end user fishermen.

I'm curious how will boats pass inspection if the inspection is done while it's raining?
Re: casitas inspection
Don't think that I do not appreciate all the hard work that has been put into this fight. Like everyone else I was pissed and saddend by the closure. I have fished Casitas since about 1968 and now have a chance to continue to fish it. I don't fish tourneys anymore so being bound to 1 lake is OK by me. And for the bass cooperating - I have never had problems finding a few fish on most trips. They might not be hogs but I will catch some. As far as the Casitas Navy (rental boats) They don't bother me. At least they are only stupid instead of territorial.Kelly Ripa wrote:I think that Ray and all those who pleaded with the powers not to do something rash are entitled to the sour taste in their mouths.
