Re: Sta-Bil New Marine Formula Ethanol Treatment...Anybody..
I havent seen it yet with a Marine Specific Label, I do use ordinary Sta-Bil when I know the boat will be sitting for over two weeks.

Hey Mr. Wizard
I have been using it for the last couple of months and it seems to work pretty good. I started using it as I am not using my boat as often as usual this year, my boat is currently stored outside and with the unstable weather we have had lately (hot, cold, hot cold), I was concerned about condensation and the ethanol chewing up my fuel tanks. I thought giving it a go would be in my best interest.

I bought a bottle last week but haven't bought any new gas yet.
I'm wondering if it really does "neutralize" ethanol. The advertising says that it has 4 times the cleaning power of normal Stabil, but doesn't say that it eliminates the effects of ethanol, i.e., water absorption etc...

I haven't used it yet, but I will. So far it seems to be the only product on the market that claims to do anything about ethanol. I'm really concerned because Yamaha says anything more than 10% ethanol is a no-no.

Can non E85 gas have more than 10%? I thought by law gas can't be more than 10% ethanol unless it is marked on the pump as E85?I'm really concerned because Yamaha says anything more than 10% ethanol is a no-no.

From a previous post on the subject, Delta Dan, who works in the industry, stated CA is blending upwards to 13% ethanol. I don't know about having to post it on the pumps, but I'm not taking any chances. That new Sta-Bil stuff is going in my tank.

I have been thinking about using it also, should I mix it in with my current gas or just add it as I get new gas?
Thanks,

The subject of ethanol and how to deal with it in marine engines and fuel systems has generated lots of questions and also lots of misinformation.
By early next week in a separate post I'll be sharing a thorough description of the problems with ethanol and specific things to do about them. This includes explaining what gas additives to use and when to use them.
Pretty sure it will answer a bunch of questions floating around. Would have been done today but I went out fishin'...

I haven't seen Ethanol upwards of 10% in CA.

Re: Sta-Bil New Marine Formula Ethanol Treatment...Anybody..
The article you mention from Mercury has some good info to be sure but it suffers from some inaccuracies.
For example, it states that there is no additive that prevents phase separation of water in ethanol-based fuels. In fact, there are two additives on the market that do that although they are not the ones talked about in this thread. I'll talk about them when I post my article--soon.
Also, most gas today in California is 5.7% ethanol (E5.7). By Dec 31 2009 it has been mandated to go to all E10.

Let me guess, you own the company that makes the 2 additives?
Re: Sta-Bil New Marine Formula Ethanol Treatment...Anybody..
Nope, but nice try. I have no financial interest in any company, just a fisherman with a boat like you.
