Anybody who is reasonably close to Chico:
Tonight [Thursday May 29] from 5 PM to around 8:30 or 9 PM.
At the Rod and Gun Clubhouse at Horseshoe Lake in Upper Bidwell Park.
The Chico Bass Club will be rigging and repairing the 600 [!!] loaner rods to be used for the kid's fishing event on Saturday.
It's pretty simple, mostly just basic Carolina-rigs with snelled hooks on Zebco spincast outfits.
We have all the materials, just bring line clippers and your reading/close-up glasses.
Anybody who is quick and efficient at tying rigs would be most welcome!

I heard no lead was allowed at the lake?
What size weight and hook are you using for the Carolina rigs?
Can the kids bring their own rod and reel?
Do you provide the bait?

NO LEAD AT HORSESHOE.
Any "non-lead" weight will do. The lake is small and shallow, fairly open water with a few snags, toolies etc. Bobber fishing for the PLANTER CATS will be the ticket early.
They PACK the lake full of fish, so just about any rig, for bait fishing will work.
Its a great time, and the weather looks good for this years event.
THE KIDS WILL CATCH FISH!!!!!
I recomend it to anyone who wants to put a kid on some great fishing, and introduce our future anglers to the sport.
Good Luck to ALL!!!!

Yes, you must use one of the "non-lead" brands of fishing sinker.
We gratefully received a donation of several cases from Danielson, the makers of "Enviro-Quest" steel sinkers, which are working great for us.
The bobber rigs work well early, and as long as the overcast holds, but once the sun comes out, the fish back off about 25 yards from the bank and it takes a longer cast.
For those who might want to watch, the catfish will be planted on Friday [May 30] at about 11:45 AM, it's quite a sight to see 10,000 pounds of catfish going in.
BTW, kudos to the awesome helper crew tonight, we rigged up the 600 rods in only 3 hours!
