Here is the reason for 5 MPH at Folsom
And this is posted on YouTube for all to see....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W6ewH5x ... re=related
Their parents must be so proud and as you can see...alcohol is not allowed inside the state park and at last check the water was still INSIDE the state park. And the marina and local businesses are losing their shorts because of this nonsense.
PUNKS, every last one of them without any sense of responsibility or thought towards the safety of anyone else!!!!

Re: Here is the reason for 5 MPH at Folsom
You're 100% wrong in this case......Inside of all state parks it is illegal to have alcohol in possession and that is inclusive of your boat. Folsom Lake in its' entirety is operated, maintained and functions under the authority of the State of California. So when you pay your entrance fee and enter the Folsom Lake you are inside of a state park and in violation of the law.BMX Bassin wrote:Your a jealous loser Scott!!!!! Good response Mr. KRNAICH..about what I expected from someone of your limited intelligence. No wonder WesternBass has become so "dumbed" down over the years. Look at the time, hop on your BMX and go deliver pizzas now, go on good boy.

I'd have to agree with BMX Bassin on this one. As long as the driver is not partaking, the passengers can. CHECK THE LAW SCOTT!!

I have Coral...check the above post. I have had anglers fishing FBL events cited for drinking in the parking lot during weigh-in. This is the law inside of state parks.

Guess I'm glad I didn't crack open that (1) Coors Light with lunch & let the wifey drive afterwards yesterday!!
Have to play it SAFE!!

Folsom is one of the few lakes in the state that is entirely encompassed by state property. Everything to the high water mark is state property and falls under the state law.

The problem is Blue that they do and the ranger look the other way. It is too much of a hassle to make the bust and cite or god forbid make the arrest and drive them all the way to the Placer County Jail to be booked. Oh no, they may not make it home for dinner on time.

Re: Here is the reason for 5 MPH at Folsom
I think it is time to call bullshiot on them! I am so tired cops only doing the part of the job they like and no what is requiered .From the boat ramp you cant see anything thats going on and that is where they sit. The last time i tryed to report a jet skier doing lapes around me the cop said and i quote "I dont have time for that " .So im back to casting large spooks at them and hope to catch me a jet skier. So if you see a black and red nitro i can cast 100ft or so and dont try me.

Re: Here is the reason for 5 MPH at Folsom
Sorry Scott but you got the alcohol law all wrong at Folsom. This is from the Folsom Lake Marina webpage and outlines the policy as it is enforced at Folsom Lake State Park. The anglers that were ticketed at your Folsom Bass League were drinking on the land at the launch ramp during your weigh-in and awards ceremony, a direct violation of not only your special use permit but State Park Rules.....and if I remember correctly they weren't DQ'd.
The five mile an hour rule on that lake is because one person last year Mike Gross, the lake manager enacted it because he said they couldn't keep up with posting submerged objects that were coming up and they wanted to limit the state's liability. Now what happened to the "boat at your own risk" policy that is displayed on the sign as you enter each of the areas on the lake? They took our lake away for 6 months last year and it will be 9 before we see the lake back where you can run. How much in tax payer dollars are they costing Placer and El Dorado County? How many more tackle stores, boat dealers, marine operators do we have to loose before someone steps in and challenges this policy?
State Parks has lied to me on several occasions about the number of times they have put the 5 on that lake. They have even told me that Folsom used to be a rural lake but now it is urban so they have to do it. I have been told they have to put the 5 on because boaters just want to drive too fast, on a lake with no speed limit?
I watched the wakeboarders on new years day last year run around the lake. I told Michael Gross that Mercury does not recommend prolong idle periods on larger outboards and he told me "I beg to differ with you I think you guys just want to run around too fast". Not only is he a historian on Folsom Lake Policy he must also be a Mercury Tech.
I really don't think that a group of people on You Tube are the reason we have the 5's and although they were stupid they in fact were not breaking the alcohol rule on Folsom unless their boat was touching the shore or the driver was impared.
We have the policy because the State Parks is protecting us from ourselves and anybody that listens to my show or Sep's show know I fought that losing battle alone last year. Now we live next to a great lake we can compete on and run our boats on 3-6 months a year. If the State Parks had to run it's business like a business they would all be unemployed by now but our tax dollars keep rolling in and they keep getting paid. How about a few layoffs over at Folsom Lake State Parks to get some attention?
The number to the Gold Fields District is (916) 988-0205 and if you don't like the fact that they have once again taken our lake away give them a call. I am sure that if they are worried they could put up a "no ski" rule since the rivers are narrower and shallower but how about a 25 mph speed limit so we could still enjoy fishing out there in the afternoons before dark or for a few hours on a weekend morning.
Sorry this is so long guys but if they put the Delta to 5mph for nine months we would have a mutiny.

New Alcoholic Beverage Policy
Planned for Folsom Lake, Lake Natoma
In an effort to enchance public safety and combat increasing law enforcement problems, California State Parks will prohibit consumption of alcoholic beverages in all day use areas at Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma, effective March 1, 2003.
This policy prohibits the consumption of alcohol or possession of an open continer of alcohol in any day use and lake surface areas of the park.
Exceptions to the policy are:
Registered campers within a designated campground
Within a vessel Floating on the lake surface, but not touching shore
Permitted Special Events in designated areas.
An open container is defined as any bottle, can or other receptacle containing any alcoholic which has been opened, or seal broken, or the contents which have been partially removed.
Policies prohibiting alcohol consumption have been institued in 43 parks within the California Stae Park system, including at Lake Perris State Recreation Area, a Riverside County unit that draws more than 1 million visitors a year, and Millerton Lake State Recreation Area in Fresno County, which attracts some 600,000 visitors annually. Folsom Lake receives about 1.8 million visitors a year.
A review of crime statistics for the Folsom Lake State Rereation Area Found That:
While overall crime has remained relatively constant over the past few years, alcohol related crime has been on the rise. The problem reached a peak in 2001, when nearly 400 alchol-related citations were issued within the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.
Alcohol-related crime rose from a low of 7 percent of all crime in the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area in 1998 to a high of 22 percent in 2001.
Between 1997 and 2002, a total of 513 citations were issued to minors in possession of alcohol and minors driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .05 percent or higher.

Thank god, I've been posting all day to bait you out in the open because you have more on top of this than any one us.

While I may have been wrong on the drinking on a boat, it is the activities in the video clip that are the heart of your statistical information at the bottom of your post.

Thank you for helping to make a point, there is no "At your own risk" anymore because no one can take responsibility for their own actions. Like Ray pointed out, after getting several calls about liability if the boat owner hit something and a few attempts at litigation, the state thought this course of action was better. Harm the masses at the behest of a few idiots.
State Parks has lied to me on several occasions about the number of times they have put the 5 on that lake. At least they're talking to you, I wiggled Mr. Gross' email address out of an employee and he never once returned anything I sent to him.

I do believe it is this type of thing that gets going and add the retarded alcohol policy of no alcohol in the park, but it's okay in the boat. Nevermind you have to drive the boat/vehicle across state park property to get it in the water.

Please everyone call this number and raise hell, Camanche has a "no-Ski" zone and I am sure it wouldn't be that hard to put a 25 MPH Speed limit on the rest of the lake.

Re: Here is the reason for 5 MPH at Folsom
Better yet we should get his fax # and send all of this every day .It would wast less of our time and more of theres.I called them last week and jumped his shiot big time .If we all did the same and made his life hell every day the 5mph rule is on he mite think about doing something different. If we just bend over and take it without a fight what is going to stop them from closing it to boats alltogether .And why dont they just mark the channal so we can run and everything out side the markers is 5mph i think they have enough makers for that or instead of new boats every three years get more fing booies. ps im pissed
Re: Here is the reason for 5 MPH at Folsom
Except for the kid who jumped off the boat while it was moving it all looked like harmless fun. Yeah they were drinking and partying and those are typically the boats/boaters who end up messing up good fishing water when we are out trying to fish and be quiet, but we can not tell if any of the drivers were intoxicated, and most if not all of us have or will enjoy getting out and letting loose with our friends every now and then. If they want to be dumb about their drinking and get in trouble or hit submerged objects then so be it, but it's not fair to group kids/people having fun as punks or trouble makers. Just my .02

Totally disagree. When their drinking endangers me and my boat, they are "punks and trouble makers" in my eyes. And, for what it's worth, if someone I love is injured as a result of such irresponsibility, the law will be the least of these culprits worries.ScottyJ wrote:Except for the kid who jumped off the boat while it was moving it all looked like harmless fun. If they want to be dumb about their drinking and get in trouble or hit submerged objects then so be it, but it's not fair to group kids/people having fun as punks or trouble makers. Just my .02

Re: Here is the reason for 5 MPH at Folsom
Finally someone who sees the true danger in all of this. This video is of ONE group out that day. In the background, there were 4 other boats tied up with the video boat. That didn't take into account how many other alcohol using individuals were up in the North Fork 5 MPH at the time the video was made. To honestly and naively think that those boats had desginated drivers is just pulling the blinders on a little tighter.

I hit a submerged rock at Folsom last week and Broke the skeg off my lower unit ( 3 - 4k in damages). It's pretty hairy right now with the low water level.

Not saying you were doing anything wrong, but is hitting that rockpile any different than if the lake were at full pool and you hit one ?.
An obstruction is an obstruction and there are just as many hazards with the lake at full pool as there are right now.

I don't get butthurt and don't care if I offend anyone anymore because I don't have to care. As for you Mr. KRNAICH., I got a good idea about you and your five cent view points.
Mike, you're pot stirrer and you like to keep this kind of thing going, but you have to understand that there are some of us that look for this kind of opportunity to "play". While you might not be butthurt now....you'll eventually come away feeling like you were gang raped.

Just for Chit's n Giggles ..... Anyone rember that dude that was going across Folsom at night with his G/F on the bow with feet in water about 4 years back. ~~ He ran over her back apparently with a stainless prop.
I believe he plead to involuntary MS and got 10-15. -- Anyhow ....... I just wondered if he can still smell Folsom from his cell if he was lucky enough to be placed there ?
-- Carry on.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

I do remember that incident, it was near the start of the wakeboard boat craze. This guy is another fine upstanding lake maggot example. I hope they put him in a prison close to the desert where he has no contact with anything resmebling water.

I know a lot of these guys out on the lake. Soon to be sac river. They are fuggin posers! It wont be long before the repo man comes to get their boats. Its all good!BMX Bassin wrote:Your a jealous loser Scott!!!!! Do you personally know any of those People to be Punks??? Their parents must be so proud and as you can see...alcohol is not allowed inside the state park and at last check the water was still INSIDE the state park.
Punks, every last one of them!!!!

BTW BMX I understand the wakeboard trend. Its all good. I respect the sport. But what we have going on in Roseville Sac area is beyond what you do. Buying a wakeboard boat to tie up and drink on is just wrong. I see kids on Folsom and fear for those little guys in the water.
