Oroville is a great spotted bass fishery. There are also numerious other lakes in the area such as Clear Lake. Almanor, to many to name.

Oroville is loaded with spotted bass. Getting a big one is a challenge sometimes. Plus the trout and salmon fishing is good if you are into that.

You also have lots of fishing/hunting opportunities opportunities surrounding you with the Feather River & Afterbay, good duck/goose hunting nearby, turkey, deer etc.

As with Clear Lake, there is some riffraff to deal with. But overall I really like fishing at Oroville.

The "O" is a great spotted bass lake. Water levels can rise and fall up to 200 ft per year. Within a 2 hour drive there are numberous "world class" fisheries. Hawg hunting on Clear lake or the Delta, Whiskeytown for spots and largies, Amador for smallies. Paradise is a nice town.

Good luck in your adventures...wish I was still there....

Redding CA. Home of Shasta Lake, Whiskeytown Lake and the beginning of the Lower Sacramento River. One hour to the west is Trinity Lake which held the state record smallmouth for sometime and has a great population of northern largemouth. Countless ponds in the area. Trout fishing on the upper Sacramento river before it flows into Shasta Lake is world class. Still only 2.5 hours to Clearlake, 1.5 hours to Oroville. A lot of other fishing opportunities within a short drive. Oroville is a decent lake but the fish are much smaller on average then the lakes mentioned above. You will have more stores, restaurants, banks, homes etc. in the Redding area also. Not trying to hijack, just letting you know what the area just to the north has to offer.

Orroville fishes like any of those other resiviors just got to get through the smaller fish, or leave them entirly for the better bite ;)

I moved up from SoCal a few years ago and found that a bass is a bass. But NorCal offers so much more in the way of fishing its just sick.

Oroville and the spill way up there are great fishing. It is a lake you have to learn, but there are some good fish in there. Also if you can get a pontoon on the feather river in oroville and drift down, its the best small mouth fishing I have ever had. My biggest salmon I have ever landed I caught out of the feather up there back in 99 I think went 52#. Town is kinda run down, lots of tweekers and you roll the dice every time you park your rig anywere.

The ramps seem to be OK but I have been broken into 3 times along the feather river. There are alot of places to park that are tucked away back there. Safest place on the feather is right in front of matthews ready mix plant. On the other side behind the tackle shop is bad news, tweeker strip mall. They will either take everything they can, or destroy what they cant.
