flippin rod
flippin rod
I'm looking for a flippin rod (not a frog rod), mainly for use on the delta. Anybody have any suggestions?
Re: flippin rod
For an all around flippin stick I absolutely love the Fenwick HMG. I have five of the 7'6", and I use them for alot of different stuff. You can't beat 'em for the price
Re: flippin rod
Anybody ever use the Powell 766?

Re: flippin rod
Lots of quality rods out there, Dobyns, Fenwicks, Kistler's etc.... Loomis FSR904X, Lami 806 & Lami 797's are what I use. I really like the 8 footers (806's), they take a little getting used to but once yer comfortable with em,,,, you won't look back....
for the money, Powell is gonna be tough to beat... I think Powell makes an 806 now too.... not sure if it's a once piece blank like the others,,, thats a big consideration for me... I have a smaller boat so I need to stick w telescopic rods for storage purposes. Some guys get all hyped up over the weight and sensitivity diff between one piece and telescopic rods.... sounds like a lot when you read the specs and even while yer playin around w em in the tackle shop..... but the "real world on the water" difference is just not really that much to worry about either way..
from the guys I've talked too,,,, the Powell 765 is more of an all around flip stick where the 766 is more adapt for heavier stuff like big jigs and punching............. but I havn't used either myself.. and I tend to go a little heavy on the poower side anyhow

Personally I use Dobyns 765Flip for flippin' and pitchin', I have used the 734C, 735C, 736C and the 766Flip depending on baits, presentation and conditions. Gary also makes an 805 Flip/Punch for the really thick stuff as well as a 764C for light Flippin'. All are awesome rods and give the angler a wide variety of choices to accomodate the many technique specific conditions. Hope this helps ya'.

I second that! Once you're comfortable flipping with an 8ft stick, its hard to go back to the 7'6" models.BIG DADDY BLUE RANGER wrote: I really like the 8 footers (806's), they take a little getting used to but once yer comfortable with em,,,, you won't look back....
All my rods are either Performance Tackle Customs, Loomis, or Daiwa, except my 8ft flippin stick. Its a Quantum(the only piece of tackle I own from their company) 8ft Gary Klein signature series rod: http://www.quantumfishing.com/fwrods/gkrods.html
It's actually really light in my hand and I'm able to flip all day with no fatigue at all. It also has the down-wrapped(spiral) guides which I personally love. It allows you to place your bait into the cover so much more stealth than a conventional guide configuration. It really handles braided line beautifully. Sparse or heavy cover...it doesn't matter, this stick gets the job done. The price is great too. The list price is about $200. Here's one I found on ebay(thats where I got mine) that you can buy for $113 if you're interested? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-QUANTUM-TOUR-ED ... m153.l1262
Cheers....

Fenwick Elite Tech ECFP76H-F, never thought I'd git away from my 7' Cameron. It's been the one rod I've had on my deck every single trip out since January. Teamed with the soon to be released TNT Wadda Bombs, this rod has proven to me ta be a beast and great tool on giant River bass. It also comes in a 7'11", single piece model, for those who prefer a longer rod.

thanks for all the input folks, I've got some searchin to do.
Re: flippin rod
Bit of nostalgia - my first flippin stick was the Fenwick HMG telescopic . . . loved that rod and it lasted over 10 years (until I stepped on it)
Re: flippin rod
I handed my old HMG down to my son and he loves it. That is one great rod.

Re: flippin rod
My choice is the Loomis BCR874 7'3" 10-20 it is stated as a carolina rig rod, but I flip with it and I got it for the extra long butt section.
