Are there any...

Post by Jason C. »

Under Armour Pro-Staffers out there? Or anyone that has alot of experience with their products? I am putting the "Cold Gear Legging" and the "Cold Gear Longsleeve" shirt on my birtday and or christmas wish list. I know what size leggings I need but Im not sure about the shirt. I just measured my chest and I got 37 inches. Tackle Warehouse's discriptions( http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage ... UACLM.html ) says a small is 36" and medium is 38"-40". Which size do you recogmend I get? I am thinking of getting a small, but my main fear would be that hight wise(from neck to waist) it might be to small and not cover my whole torso and leave an exposed area between the leggings and shirt. And the concern I have with getting a medium is that it would be to loose and not stay tight on the skin and do the job that it is supposed to do? I would go down to a store and try them both on, but I dont know of anywhere that sells them around my house. So anyone with knowlege of this product please let me know what you recogmend I do! I

Hey Jason -
I can't help you on the exact sizes you are looking for but, I have a lot of experience with Under Armour. I have been wearing it since the very first year it was available - actually even before it was available through the teams I played football for.

I always wore it loose and liked it that way. Most of my teammates wore it tight and I tried it that way a few times and it just wasn't for me. Either way, I don't think its any less effective as a cold weather product when worn loose. I also think that if you don't have it extra long when you sit down to make a run in the boat it'll pull up out of your pants (rain gear) etc... and be very cold on your lower back. Their material is very stretchy so it pulls out of the backside of your apparel pretty easily when you bend over, squate etc...

So I guess I am saying order too big rather than too small!

Jason,
I use the medium. It fits me just a little loose but it still keeps me plenty warm. Now if you don't want to spend that much money on those I also wear the regular Cherokee thermals and I think they do just as good of a job. They are a lot cheaper. I buy them at K-mart for 10 bucks for 3 in a pack.

The only fisherman I have ever seen sponsored by them is Gerald Swindle.

Thanks for the store tips Rich, I will have to go to a Big 5 here soon to see if they have any.

Tom, Thanks for the recogmendations and tips on the fitting sizes. I will deffinately keep that in my decision making.

Sean, I didn't think to many people were on their staff, nor had I heard of many on their staff, which is why I opened it up to people who had experience with the product. I might have to look into the Cherokee Thermals, that sounds like a good idea to have multiple ones for multipul day tournaments or outings.

Another questions, if the UA's get wet, what happens? Does it keep the heat like whool gloves? Or will it suck the warmth out of you like cotton? Also do they take long to dry out? Basically on those multiple day tournaments where you are staying at a rinky dink hotel with no dryer, can you just hang it ove the edge of the shower or a chair and leave it over night, come to it in the morning and it will be dry? Please let me know!

Jason, My son wore the UA at Shasta last year. He was still cold as he didn't properly waterproof. So I guess the answer to the warmth/wet issue would be stay dry. He chose the small and it was not too tight. He is a bit taller than you and as skinny. We bought it at REI. I bought the Nike gear and went tight. It is a bit uncomfortable to me. It may be I typically wear loose fitting clothes. We did not get the leggings. Opted for standard cotton longies under jeans with goretex ski pants. Plenty weather proofing there. BTW there is nothing more annoying than a generic or partial sentence subject line

Jason -- Costco in Antioch has the same product called "Active Armour" or something like that. -- $18 each for seperates of LS Shirt and Pants bottom.

Work the same in wicking away moisture and are very comfortable.

Same with Thermos like Sean uses ~ for me as well, with sweats and topped with rain gear.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

They dry very fast. Multiple day events won't be a problem...

As for when they are wet and you are wearing them - well, they are much warmer than wet cotton.

Comparing them to thermals for warmth is fair - but, for functionality there is a big difference... the underarmour is much easier to move around in... especially if its under several other layers.

Hey Robert, I am not worried about it fitting me TOO tight, more just it not being the right length from neck to waist. And sorry if the topic of a partial sentence buggs ya...but it got ya to look didn't it?

Dan,
I will have to look into the "Active Armour" sounds like a good replacement...which brings me to another question, Has anyone on here tried both Under Armour and Active Armour? And if you have which one would you say you like best?

Tom,
Once again thanks for the info! Thats what I wanted to hear as far as the drying time. The ease of moving around with these on and the way they keep you warm is what really drew me to them. And I am planning on wearing these under several different layers, as I get cold rather easily! Also how long would you say one shirt lasts? beacause at 50 or more bucks a pop I dont want to have to be replaceing them once every few months or so. Please let me know!

Have you seen my kid? He is 16 and twice as tall as you! Should be OK on length. Actually I pass on a bunch of threads that have incomplete subject lines. I am sure there are many others that do as well. I just read yours to chastise you for posting the generic header.

I work at T and B Sports in Santa Rosa. We sell a ton of UA and I would agree with Tom 100%. If you are between sizes go up. If it is a little loose it won't take away from the effectivness.
