what gives in the heat?
what gives in the heat?
I have been fishing a small private lake in Corona and have been skunked the last few times I have gone. Since summer hit really... I have been using plastics when in late spring and killing it... now nothing. Any suggestions? I have even tried fly fishing with bass flies. Open to any suggestions. Thanks!

There may be a low dissolved oxygen level in the lake, making the fish lethargic. They may only be active at night.

Over at Los Canerros a small lake in Goleta the same thing happens. It usually meant that I had to wait until sundown and then bring out 1/4 oz. lipless cranks ( rattle traps chrome...chrome blue....chrome black ) and also a rico or pop-R type bait in a bait fish chrome/bleed'n what ever color. They should always be accessible to some type of worm presentation since you can fish it from top to bottom and everywhere inbetween. I don't know your lake but edges are important at any lake so look to areas that have obvious edges and fish them. The edge where the dam meets the dirt / natural creek channels or contures to the surrounding land that indicate what is an edge in your pond any tullie is a good tullie/ weedlines and anything else that passes for structurei.e. (rock to sand transition or small rock to bigger rock areas) you'd be surprised how offshore and close to shore they will be
It's usually timing on a pond

Mark is probably closer to the mark than I will be.
but sometime in summer speed kills put your plastics away and crank, rip and blade away the day.

jr,
You're right about reaction baits. They'll hit it before they think about it, even when they're in a really negative mood, but you have to hit them on the head.

A "seal bomb", or a true M80 pitched out to any promising spot should produce this time of the year.
OR borrow an electro- shocking boat...
The nicest bass I ever saw caught at the lake Kelly mentioned fell to 2 boys fishing with live bluegill
