Drove the new 250hp Yama 4-stroke today

Post by DeltaDan »

That is one powerful motor !!

Just for chits and giggles and a comparason -- Has anyone ever driven both the 250 2-stroke and 4-stroke for peformance comparisons ??

The tourque on that 4-stroke was just plain out amazing on a 23' Workcraft.

Skeeterman,
I curently have a 09 ZX225 with a 225 fourstroke. It is just an awesome motor. It has unbelievable power. Quiet, good on fuel, and good top end. I'm getting 70.8 with a fourstroke. It doesnt seem to matter how the boat is loaded, it handles the same. I know its not as fast as a two stroke, but I'm sure the new motor that is coming out will be even better.

If you want to check out how this thing runs, send me a PM and we can get together.

Skeeter -- This motor was on a 23' all alunimum doubble wide with a self bailing hull and center cockpit (one extreamly heavy boat !!).

The company bought this and several other (25', 19' and two 16's ) boats for boom deployment/containment around ships ... It was obvious on my driving it that it needs a 9.9 Yama High Thrust kicker to help and assist steer the boat against the ripping current that was taking us into the docks as that boat can not manoeuvrer at low speeds and is sort of dead in the water when in trouble against the ripping tide. (two man minimum is the requirement at all times-- but needs three realistically for this job with everyone working togther)

After the drill was done -- I ran the boat out to the Mothball to show some people that have to train as well for the upcoming strike in Feb '09. The tourque on that motor -- the top end -- the quietness ..... Frickin' AMAZING !! I trimmed it up all the way to the Fleet on the way out, to show them there is life outside of behind a desk and figuring out numbers all day.

-- Trimmed down comming against the increasing rollers making as smooth as possible for their drawers. The motor was so smooth and was very responsive to the hand throttle for such a big boat as well.

I don't know if they make a shaft short enoufgh to put on a bass boat -- and I have never had the pleasure of running in a Merc Verado .... But that Yama 250 was very eye opening to say the least !!
