Deep release gadget ?
Deep release gadget ?
Partner told me he saw a gadget on web awhile back that you could release a single bass down to desired depth , then release. It was a 6-12 oz. weight w/ wire .You would attach to bottom of mouth and it had a quick release to pull weight back up. Any body seen this or any other ideas besides a cage?

You can use a baitknocker if you have one. My buddy has a baitknocker where the weight was sorta egg shaped. We took the chains off, and CAREFULLY slid the weight into the fishs stomach. This was surprisingly easy, it goes right in. Just do it slow. Once in we placed the fish in the water and the weight helped the fish get back to the bottom in 60 foot. Once down we lightly jiggled the rope with slight pulls and the weight popped right out of the fish's stomach and mouth. Mission accomplished. I was skeptical of this technique mostly because I thought it could harm the fish. I was very surprised at how effective and non-harmful it was. One can be built much easier than a cage.

The Shelton's Fish Descender is the way to go.
Add whatever weight you want... and it works very easily

They've been using these things on DEEP ocean "Rock Fish" for many years and it works well!
Recently I added one to my bass boat on an old rod handle and old reel - with some braid and a 8 ounce weight. Stores away easily and will come in handy for deep caught fish.

Im not a fan of fizzing because 1) anytime you poke a hole in a fish you open a portal for infection and 2) anytime you are sticking a needle in a fish you run the risk of being slightly off and hitting a vital. But, thats just how I feel about it. I also dont like poking holes in lips for any purpose.

I fizz them with regularity, but I also have a 12 ounce torpedo sinker tied on to a marker bouy, which can be inserted into the fishes' mouth and lowered down, then pulled free.

Ed,
I can't remember the name of the product, but they do make a deep release device intented for rockfish.
You might look around DFG or something like that, I seem to remember it being featured in a gov type pamphlet.

I used same method once , tied 5-6 1 oz. worm weights onto some braid , this also worked great, cost me nothing !Steve wrote:You can use a baitknocker if you have one. Ed-
I know you ain't fishing that deep with your swimbaits, What you need a baitnocker for?
Are you spooning those Pedro bass in 50 ft of water?
I will figure you out sooner or later, soon as I get your chip out of your boat. GPS Cordinates anyone.
