I have cancer
This may seem a strange post here, but I'm excited about my outcome. Life is good.
I've been in the hospital for three days. I've been urinating blood on and off for 6 months and feeling poorly for over a year. 5 years ago I had a benign tumor removed that was causing severe irritation. I wasn't satisfied with that physician so I went to a better hospital with better doctors. I was a routine examination that should have taken 15 minutes. I went in at noon. I came out at 3 oclock.
The doctor said, "We found cancer. I was able to remove it all and its not the kind that spreads, but you're lucky we got it early. This kind of cancer stays in the bladder and is slow growing. It has 4 stages. Stage 1 or 2 is manageable - stage 1 might not reoccur, stage 2 will probably reoccur but can be managed, stage 3 - we're in trouble - stage 4 we're in trouble. I think my guess is you are stage 1."
This "C" word is hard to hear no matter how much you sugar coat it. The doctor removed the bladder wall, down to the bladder muscle the area the size of a softball circle. He says the bladder wall will grow back in about 6 weeks. I am so surprised at his skill. In three days, I have no blood in my urine. After the operation 5 years ago I bled for 10 days.
I feel very lucky. I know many have it worse. I'm very glad mine is manageable and shouldn't affect my length of life. He said there's a 100% chance it was caused by smoking as this cancer only shows up in smokers over 55.
I told him, "I've only had 4 cigarettes a day from 2002 to June when I quit and I didn't smoke from 2000 to 2002. His reply was, "Well buddy you past is catching up with you."
Today, I woke up feeling better than I've ever felt in 3 years. No back pain, no kidney pain, I feel more alert than ever. I'm not plagued with the normal bladder spasms and I have energy like I haven't felt in years. I don't know how that cancer drug me down so far but its like a huge weight has been lifted from me.
I feel blessed today. My heart goes out to those who have it worse than I.
The Dr. recommends Vitamin A and D and Betacarotene. I think one of these you get by fishing naked right?

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Re: I have cancer
Glad to hear everything is on the positive. You are right you can get a certain vitamin from the sun. If you want to fish when ever you fell ike it I don't suggest trying to get it by fishing in the buff. But then again being cancer free is a good reason to get a little crazy.
Please don't get off !!!

Re: I have cancer
Greg,
About a year and a half or two years ago my wifes 77 year old grandmother was diagnosed withstage 4 uteran (wrong spelling im sure) cancer. She was upset like most people would be but had the same oh well what you gonna do kinda attitude and let me tell you, this 77 year old woman went thru surgery, radiation 5 days a week for 5 or 6 weeks with zero side effects, and in the end, she was given a clean bill of health and left northern Cal for a trip to the yukon and she drove. We were all nervouse considering her just getting over this and all, but two years later and she is the healthy of us all, even watches our daughter, her great-granddaughter 3 days a week. Im a firm beliver that a positive attitude and a healthy mind is all you need!!
Glad your doing well

Dang Greg, When I first started reading, I was at a total loss as to what to say..After reading it through, it seems you have an excellent attitude and an excellent prognosis..I still don't know what to say, other than, hang in there, it looks as though things are looking up..

I think Marty donates blood. When I woke up in the recovery room, I briefly considered voting for McCain. Thanks for all the good thoughts guys, I am very very confident that things will be fine. I can't believe how good I feel already. In 1971 they said quadriplegics had a 15 year life expectancy after injury. I already outlived that x 2.5

Glad to hear things are looking up. You have the right attitude on life, good for you. I'm sure a lot of us complain about things that are trivial especialy in comparison, so it certainly puts things into perspective.

Re: I have cancer
Greg thank God youre' okay. My fireman son, Jim, has bad bladder cancer, may be stage 3. But we have the greatest hope Jim will be okay. He has the greatest healers of all, the good Lord, family and all his brotherhood of firefighters praying for him.
I had two bouts of cancer and was supposed to die, but the good Lord saved my sorry butt for some reason, haven't found out why just yet. That's where the name survivor came from. And then I just had to put my dog down, she came up with bladder cancer, sometime life sucks, but I guess there's a reason for everything.
Again really glad to hear the good news for you.
Just my two cents,
Paul aka survivor

Dear, You Ol FART,
Do you seriously Think, That You are getting away from us that Easy !?
Considering the HILL YOU HAVE CLIMBED FOR THE LAST 2.5 !?
This little walk in the park, is a cake walk for you and your indomitable soul and the twinkle in your eyes.
I expect That You will be around for many more Fishing Seasons Too Come, Just so you can print your god awful jokes, your totally off the wall pictures (Swaying Cows) and your love of TWEAKING MARTY'S
NOSE, For Your Unabashed Political Views.
The Lord has many more plans in store for your sorry butt, So WE ALL FULLY EXPECT THAT YOU GET BUSY LISTING TO HIM AND QUIT YOUR GROUSING
I'm sure that they have something to do with you exploring all the water you haven't fished in Clear Lake yet while on that Toon Boat Of Yours, and spreading Lies about the Big UN's That Some How Get Away. But I just may be bias !

Your post shows me a lot about your character and since you are a character everything is as it should be

Now this Obama thing has me worried, but I'm not going there as we're all in trouble anyway.
Phil, you're ILL, or your in need of major doses of vitamin D, which I see(
) you're taking care of.
