Gene: Katrina Dehaven is trying to cherry pick your tournament. She's over qualified by rule #1 for the amount of money she has made just in the Triton Owners Tournaments in the last 2 years........Clay

I think she only won $3500 that year if she split it with Seig Taylor. If they split it, does she have to claim $5000 Or $2,500?

Rule #1.
Eligibility: To be eligible to fish the Hook, Line & Sinker tournaments, you cannot be sponsored by any major boat manufacturer, or have won $5,000 or more, in bass tournaments, in the current or previous calendar year, or be a licensed guide on the Delta.
I looked up the Triton web site, and it say's she won the tournament in 2007, $5000.00 for first place, plus another $1000.00 for big fish. In 2008 it says she won $500.00. That's just from the Triton web site.
For me, It's cut & dry. Gene's tournaments are for the weekend angler, not the pro's. In the last 3 years I've only cashed 4 times, and still I'm no where even close to $5,000. If my shoulder was healing better, I'd be on the water competeing & supporting the Hook.

Well, since she's thinking about coming up from Arizona, I hope her friend tells her before she gets here. Who fishes the Hook for the big Bux, just curious.

Got out to watch the weigh in this afternoon, and looked like fun. Looks like Gene runs a tight tournament, and I'm looking forward to being able to participate in some future tournaments.

Congratulations to those who were able to put it together today - looked like it was pretty tough out there.

Also, special congratulations to Sean Alarid and his partner Dan (if I remember right?), nice job getting a check and nice meeting you today!

It's a tackle store tournament, why not let anyone that spends their hard earned cash at that store fish the darned thing and forget about who's sponsored by who and who's won what. It's supposed to be for fun.

Would it have really mattered if a couple years ago a guy like Barrack actually brought down one of his kids to fish with him, ya know, just for fun. Or Cooch bringing a different kid to every tournament. Or a Bill Spence bringing a new partner that's never bass fished each season. What's it matter if you have a boat sponsorship or if you happened to win a little cash somewhere along the way.

It's a tackle store tournament. It's supposed to be for fun. It's amazing how many folks literally suck the fun right out of stuff for other people.

Let's be serious. Katrina is traveling from AZ up to the Delta to "Cherry Pick" a tournament that pays $600+ per team mate. It will cost her that much in gas so I don't think she is Cherry Picking to make some money. The Triton tournaments are the only thing I have heard of her fishing the last couple years so from the numbers you posted she is very likely qualified to fish the Hook Tournament. With her health issues she has not fished any big tournaments and when she did she always fished as a co-angler. Here career FLW earnings are $300 and nothing over the past two years.

Don Davis is pretty much the same story. He has no FLW earnings over the past couple years and no boat sponsor.

This is a low entry tournament that is fun. Occasionally I have fished it with one of my kids and DQed ourselves because I am not qualified to fish it. We finished middle of the pack.

Please check facts before spewing BS.

HOOK Series

Post by StogieMan »

Gene made a point of going through the rules at yesterdays weigh-in, thought it was kind of weird doing that mid way through a season but having read this post I understand.

I was at the infamous Barrack event years ago, this was at Big Break when Barrack Son fished and cleaned my clock. I did not think much about it other than I had a sucky event, kind of like yesterday

I'm with sTony on this, if a guy like Barrack, Dewayne, Delameter, want to fish with there kids they should, If you think about it where else can they fish?

How about this, if a "Pro" (hard to define the word pro) fishes with a child and cahes a check, they give an on the spot seminar for the rest of us

There is no such thing as the level playing field youare looking for, fishing is a sport. Anglers who fish a lot tend to do better over time. Winning any event is tough and at a Hook tournament you will be fishing against anglers that are better than most of us who do not qualify to fish the Hook tournaments. They just do not fish for big money. Many of them spend a lot more time on the Delta than those of us labeled as Pros.

This is exactly why I'm not fishing these with my 14, 11 or 7 year old sons. Gene has asked me several times to fish em'. and I know this would was comming.

Just a sensitive area. We have two people (Kartina and Don) here that have accused of violating a rule and a great tournament series being slighted. No one cared to check facts before making such an aweful acusation. You were not the one, you just jumped on the band wagon.

I got my start fishing the Hook series many years ago and I think I cashed 1 check. We won the first event we fished and never cashed another check as I remember. Like many who are not allowed to fish them, it would be a great circiut to introduce my childeren to tournament fishing without throwing away $120+ on a pro team circuit. It less about how much you can win and more about a competitive experience at a reasonable cost. So if you see me and one of my kids there just realize I am just donating $40 to the pot.

You think it is sensetive to you. Here is my story. I went back east this year to fish the pva tour(paralized veterans of america) as I am paralized from the waist down. To qualify to fish these you must have a severe handicap such as paralysis or missing a body part. I won 2 tournaments in which they gave away a 17' triton boat. I thought this was great at first, but now I can not fish any ameture tournaments because i won a boat. I have asked gene for the hook and terry for tracy bass and they have both told me that I can not fish. Now I have no ill feelings for eather of them because I know how much CRAP they would have to listen too. But it sure does suck. I am now trying to find someone to fish pro team turnaments just so I can compete. Even though I am not a pro .

The answer my friends is a great little club called Delta Bass Tactics. No pressure, no stress, no money, just good times and new friends. We have anglers that stretch anywhere from semi-pro and delta rats to anglers just learning to use baitcasters. Everyone for the most part controls their languages and kids are always welcome. All in good fun and just for learning. After each tourney we take turns learning what did and (for the most part) what didn't work. Sometimes we get 10 lbers. and sometimes we dont even get 10 lb. bags but one thing that always captures me is fun and friendships made.

LOL That just freakin' sucks and shows me what *** holes can do to a supposed fun sport. Leave yourself some wiggle room tournament directors. I say right now all TDs review this with regards to disability and Gender. If some guy with no legs proved himself to be a pros equal then fine, but if he wins a boat competing against other guys with mobility impairments, come on.

If I ran a tournament and someone gave me flack about it I wouldn't consider myself a man if I didn't do the right thing and cut the guy some slack.

Post by mac (Doyle McEwen) »

here is an easy solution for your low pressure take a kid fishing type tournament..Try the Federation events..There may be an age limit, I am not sure about that..But I do know the costs are low and the tourneys are fun..

mac
Take a kid fishing, and don't forget about us older kids either..
