Callville Bay, NV – The first tournament of the new year brought several new teams to the WON Bass Nevada Region. Six teams made their debut as WON Bass Nevada anglers today. Of the six new teams three are returning teams that have fished with us in the past. The other three are new teams to the circuit. Individually many of the anglers have fished other WON Bass events in the past.
With a bright full moon shining down in the early morning hours 22 teams launched out of the Callville Bay Marina all with hopes of starting the New Year off with a win. It was a cool clear morning with just a hint of a breeze blowing across the lake. It was a far cry from the 60 mile per hour winds of December that caused the cancelation of the December tournament.
Fishing their first tournament with us the team of Marcus Clouse and Aaron Leon drew first boat out. Who would have thought what the rest of the day would hold. At the weigh in a steady stream of boats drove slowly by the docks and continued on to the launch ramp. The first boat to pull to the dock was Clouse and Leon. Choosing to wait for the remaining teams weigh in their fish they sat in their boat a waited.
The wait was worth it. When Clouse and Leon finally came to the scales they produced the largest bag of the day. The first fish weighed was for big fish. As the scale stopped moving a whooping 4.15 lb. largemouth bass earned Leon the big fish of the tournament honors. With the remaining bass added it pushed the total just pass the 13 pound mark for a final weight of 13.11lbs. and first place.
Coming in second, with the only other double digit bag was Danny Branscum and Troy Duncan the most consistent team in the circuit for the past 10 years. They brought in a total of 10.76 lbs. with their big bass of 2.59 lbs. making it the third biggest bass of the day.
The third place team also is one of the most consistent teams fishing anywhere in the region was the team of Pat Donoho, former U.S. Open winner, and Bob Ellis. They brought in a limit that tipped the scales at 9.15 lbs. with their big bass of 2.76 lbs. which was good for the second big fish money.
Fourth place went to the father and son team of Dean Yamagata and his son Ryan. They managed to land four bass that weighed a total of 7.56 lbs. with a big bass at 2.08 lbs.
The fifth place team was the winner of our November tournament. The team of Ben Andreas and Darian Stumpf had the forth and final limit of the day for a total of 7.00 lbs even.
We are happy to welcome our new teams this year, Marcus Clouse and Aaron Leon, Todd Cowen and Paul Hemsley, Bill Snyder and Alan Zamora and the team of Sam Piacenza with a new partner De Lynn Montez.
