There was a question regarding fish transport at the WON Bass Nevada Team tournaments at Lake Mead on January 10 & 11.

The question regarded the transportation of fish caught during the tournament being transported to another area of the lake. The following is the “Tournament Rulesâ€

Hi Larry,
We, as in lots of tournament anglers, over the years have always released the fish away from the marina. Is someone crying about it? In my opinion you should not mandate the release just outside the bouys. For that matter the angler is doing the same thing as doing it further away. Not a good idea, in my opinion.

Taking them outside the marina would be one thing but traveling upwards of five miles is another. This way it eliminates any possible question of seeding an area. In three years this has been the only time it has happened. All of the anglers have always dropped their fish inside or just outside of the bay.

This has been done to prevent any questions of wrong doing by the anglers.

Thank you for your comments.

larry, people drop them outside the buoys cause they dont want to drive far and release them. I see nothing wrong with taking fish and dropping them where you caught them or taking them outside of callville bay. I for one always take my fish away from callville. If you need to get techical about it, there were plenty of people dropping fish off sat. in callville bay and I for one witnessed someone drop there fish and go straight back to that spot. Who cares where you drop your fish, if people want to complain about it, then get the release boat. We know theres fees for it, but it will eliminate people crying. Also, I am sure that MANY people catch fish and place them elswhere during practice. IDONT because on mead the fish are alway on the run.

One more thing, let everyone drop fish in callville, and on the second day make callville OFF LIMITS all the way out to the main lake.

I understand what you are saying Matt. The rule was designed to keep prople from seeding an area or caging fish for use during a tournament. Taking fishout side Callville Bay is fine but when people go that far it opens up a can of worms regarding possible planting and that what I trying to elimnate. You know as well as I do that fish are not going to bite the day after they are caught so releasing them in the Bay is not the problem for the next day tournament.

I'm trying to keep the tournaments above board. Like I said I don't think that seeding was the intent but I have a duty as tournament director to al of the anglers who fish our circuit to 1. enforce the organizations rules and 2. to eliminate any possible questions of unsportsman like acts.
