Just got laid off...

Man. I just got laid off.. I went from clearing 5k a month to nothing. I dont know what to do no one is hiring anyone for anything.. Anyone know of anyone hiring? I was working on a drilling rig for natural gas and oil.. I am a Army military vet, I served in Iraq and am partly disabled because of my back. (I.E.D).

Any guides out there need someone to help out on a boat? tie lures, rig rods, clean the boat anything?

First off, just let me say thank you for your service..Now on to your current situation, it is going to be tough, but you seem to have a good attitude toward it..I was in a little different situation than you when I was laid off, I was withing months of being able to draw Social Security and was already drawing my military retirement..The biggest drawback I had was age..Even though you hear there is no age discrimination, it is present and doing well..If you are able to work and willing to work, something will come along, it may not be your preference, but there are jobs out there..I wish you well, just hang in there, something good will happen..

I don't know what you are qualified to do but as a Veteran you get Veteran's preference in hiring at the VA. There are many jobs that are not medically related. I don't know if you live near a VA facility but if you do you might consider it.

Sorry to hear you got layed off. This might help you locate other Drilling Rigs.

Contact, Northern Trucking in Dunigan, Ca.
This is a contractor that deals in pipe storage for all the Rigs.
check with, "Gramm"

They can give you information on rig locations and Rig Supervisors.

They are drilling big time in Utah, Colorado and Calif.

Dude I'm sorry to hear that, Its tough I know I was out of work for 5 months and trust me it was not for a lack of trying to get a job I applied and then applied some more got 1 interview for every 8-10 jobs I applied for a week. I drive a truck jobs are suppose to be a dime a dozen ,Not

I got lucky and found work 6 months ago now just got hired on permanent!

Pretty stoked about that.

You know I see guys all the time whine and complain about thier jobs and I use to be one of those guys I have the experience and the credentials so if you pissed me off I'd tell you right where to go on a Friday and be working a new job on Monday. My generation is spoiled (36yo) the techie generation

It took me struggling for 5 months ( 08 was a very boring summer)to relize I am thankful just to be working I need them more then they need me. I keep my mouth shut and do whats ever asked of me now I go above and beyound and its paid off great just got a raise

So keep your nose to the grind, get up every morning like your going to work and check Cal-Jobs,CL,Paper make a list and fax your resume with any safety awards,training certs,etc.. to all that might work for you they dont want you to produce all these in an interview but they will take a look at em before they call you and keep them with your resume.

Wait a week then follow up with calls do this every day. Its like the lotto one day you look and nothing or maybe one or two then the next day jackpot there could be 5 or more! after doing this for a couple of weeks you should average an interview once every two weeks (hey its tough out there)

Hope this helps not an expert, ok I guess with my old atittude I am

And one more thing to keep your sanity you must go in your back yard set up the kiddie pool and cast your lures once a week imagine your on the deck of your boat

If you have any knowledge in Plumbing product's I may know of a place to start.

Salesman are what we are looking for.Inside sale's so your just an order taker basicly not knocking on door's but must know the Industry.

Bay Area and Sacramento.

I don't know if you are wanting to relocate but I hear the platforms down here are doing well and hiring all the time, worth a look around Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Everything from offshore rigs to inshore, pipelines and facilities.

Hope you find something good soon! This sort of thing scares me as I'm in the Coast Guard and looking to go reserve next year to see what is out there and hopefully go after a tournament trail full time try to make the big time ya know? But, it is scary with the way the job market is these days.

I appreciate all the kind words and help guys! I will follow a few of those leads, I will be going to the Police academy in July so I wont need a perm job.
