Jig rods

Post by L Dub »

Thinking about getting a new one to replace my Kistler Helium LTX. What are you guys using? It'll mostly be used on the delta but will be my only jig rod. I'm thinking 7'2" or 7'6".

Brand isn't really important to me. Sensitivity is the most important factor, followed by weight. (My Kistler + a Curado E is as light as a feather!)

Tight lines!

A 735 with 1/2oz jigs ..or 734 with 3/8oz jigs is what I am using here for the delta.

I know absalutely nothing about Lake Fishing and using football headed Jigs....whatever :( -- Other than as BrothAMike sayes "They are trapped to begin with !!"
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Megabass F7-77X Randy Blaukat Model. The feeling of this rod is crazy. All I have usedin the past is G-Loomis and Megabass puts them to shame. I can feel hits on jigs in the delta on completely slack line with this rod. I use the chronarch MG with it to make it even lighter. Chronarch MG is 5.9oz. Rod has a hefty price tag on it though but to me, worth every penny. Can't put it down. Just my opinion.

I like the Lamiglas XFT764, 7'6" Pitching rod and also use an older TBC705 DS, 7' heavy jig rod. These rods have the older style full cork handle and are not super light weight; great rod blanks and hardware.
Loomis BCFR894, 7' 5" feels good to me, if I was looking today.
You need to pick the rod and touch & feel it with a reel and line to have idea if it would be OK for you.
I know Dobyns started out with Lamiglas, then went direct off shore. The rods are very similar to the numbers above.

If you already have a Kistler LTX, you should be good to go. Maybe another LTX in a longer length. I use the LTX 7 footer for football jigs and the LTX 7-11 for flippin and picthin. Super light and very very sensitive. But if you own a Kistler LTX, you already know you have one of the best rods on the planet. TL

RipnRog....any ideas on who owns Phenix? I bought 4 of the new MBX and Super Flippers and snapped one (long story). I had sent the rod in and have heard nothing from them, been over 60 days now. Tried emailing, no response. Left messages, no response. Getting really frustrated as I LOVE their rods....If you or anyone else can offer any help here or knows anyone on their Pro Staff that I can talk to, that would be fantastic....thanks guys.

The St. Croix Big Gulp... Hands down the best delta jig/flippin/pitchin stick I've ever used. It's a 7'11, but you'd never know it by how light it is. Check it out at www.stcroixrods.com or the Bait Barn is carrying them.

I have good ones for $150.00 and great ones for $350.00 you name the length, handle and guides. If you like brand names I can build on Loomis, St.Croix, Phenix, or most other brand and they will cost less than you what you could buy them in Cabela's.

Your story can be told by hundreds of unsatisfied customers. Phenix rods are good, the product support is bad, an ongoing problem for years and hoped it may have turned around. Life time warranty is only good if the mfr supports the product.
It will be intersting to know how this turns out for you.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll have to swing by Hi's and check out the phoenix rods. Been meaning to check out the xbr10 anyways.
I think I'll have to take a look at the dobyns rods too...
And thanks for the offer Beach. I hear your rods are great!

Just recieved a PM for Phenix informing me that Phenix is a new company and thought I would answer them openly. The old original Phenix rods were state of the art and used by the vast majority of weekend tournament anglers during the 90's, until they ran into problems.
I still own a 1/2 dozen Phenix rods and truely hope they can reestablish their western legacy that Loomis filled during the past 10 years. Customer support, keeping product on the dealer shelves and state of the art rods should restore the Phenix name.
I will take a serious look at your products.

L DUB - i use helium ltx med heavy with a curado 201E for lakes and curently use a Kistler mark tyler delta flip and pitch special 7'6 for jigs and texas rigs for delta i love it.

In your situation i would buy the 7'6 " LTX helium because it is alot lighter, and more sensitive than my current rod but just as strong.

BTW if you still have it how much for your old LTX ?

Hey RipnRog,

I'd love to check out the Phenix rod when I get a chance. I can't make it on the 11th to the Delta though. Maybe some other time!

Thanks.
