How is the Rv campground at Konocti Vista?

Post by Turkeyman »

We will be taking the family to Clear Lake during the spring break. We are planning on staying at the RV park at Konocti Vista. Is there any problems with this or is there a better place to stay?

It depends on what you plan to do at Clear Lake. The RV Park at Konocti Vista is basically a parking lot with power, water and sewer hook ups. It sits along the side of the casino. There is a pool between the motel and lake, but you have to walk through the casino parking lot and past the casino to get to it. If your primary activity will be boating and fishing it's a great location for that because it has a launch ramp, docks and fuel. If you want a more rustic location check out the Edgewater RV Park. They also have a launch ramp and docks and is more centrally located on the lake. Their web site is http://www.edgewaterresort.net/main.htm.

My personal experience with the Edgewater was way different. The people that run the place were rude and the facilities aren't maintained very well. I went there last year and had quite possibly one of the worst camping trips I've had. There were only a couple other boats plugged in at the docks and the circuit breaker kept tripping so my boat never charged. I asked the guy in the office about it and he told me that they will trip if they are overloaded. I counted 4 boats (including mine) that were plugged in the next time it the power went down.

The cleats that I had my boat tied off to broke off of their rundown dock overnight and the front end of my boat got trashed by a huge nail sticking out of their dock just under the waterline. I politely told the lady at the office about it and she was very rude. I wasn't asking them to pay for anything and I wasn't angry about it. I just wanted to let them know that their dock was badly in need of repair. She told me that it was MY fault for tying my boat up wrong...How could tying my boat up wrong cause the cleats to break off...? I've talked to other that were very unhappy with this place

If the water is low, watch out for the launch as well. I saw more than one prop get destroyed launching out of there the few days I was there.

i have never had a problem at the edgewater, but do watch the rocks surrounding the ramp, would be better to launch next door at ferndale or the state park then camp at edgewater....jack
