I hope the board doesn't mind. I usually don't double post and I've already posted this under the striper heading. However, so many bass fishermen have shown interest in this that I thought it best to publish in the bass column as well. Please forgive this request.
From CSPA:
It seems that we are creating quite a stir from some private feedback we've been able to ferret out and the legislators are now DISCOURAGING E-mail contact since we're clogging the circuits. A shame in a state that advertises itself as the world leader in technology. They complain that they'd be overwhelmed by their constituency. What a concept, to actually get feed back from the voters on a real time basis!
Anyway, the rant over, here are the NEW instructions to send your letters to the committee. Send ONE letter to the Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee either snail mail or FAX.
The address of the committee is:
Assemblymember Jared Huffman, Chair
Assembly Committee on Water, Parks & Wildlife
1020 N Street, Suite 160
Sacramento, CA 94249
The fax number is:
916-319-2196
Your letters should be addressed:
Re: Opposition to AB 1253 (Fuller) - Striped Bass
Chairman Huffman and Members of the Committee:
You can find sample letters at:
http://www.calsport.org/cspa3-18-09a.htm
You are still encouraged to send snail mail or e-mail responses to individual assembly members IF YOU LIVE IN THEIR DISTRICT.
Our letters are working! We're piling on the pressure. Keep it up!

No matter what you fish, we all should be sending email's and letters to these folks. It just can not hurt to load them with requests and our views. Bill K

Fun fishing the country, each and every week.
Re: New instructions for AB 1253 letters
EVERYONE needs to get on board for this deal, as they are trying to eliminate stripers, and it is impossible to tell where they will stop.

Re: New instructions for AB 1253 letters
In reading the letters and other stuff on this proposal, they are also listing the Largemouth Bass as a non native predatory fish which is a problem to the Delta Smelt.
This whole thing needs to be squashed hard . I don't believe any of this is really about the smelt. It is about fishing . The people who are proposing this always have a hidden agenda and one of them is to put an end to recreational fishing.
They do not care about wrecking the economy to further their goals.
SO PLEASE WRITE THOSE LETTERS.

Correction - this is about water, plain and simple. However, it will manifest itself by impacting our fishing, for both stripers and largemouth to start.durobi wrote:I don't believe any of this is really about the smelt. It is about fishing . Let's see - how much of a rocket scientist does it take to figure that stripers, largemouth, and Delta smelt have all cohabitated for over 100 years without issue, but all of a sudden the bass are a threat to the smelt??? Give me a break!
Friggin' politicians.

Tuna man , You are probably right , water is the bigger issue, but whatever it is they will never come right out and state their position. It's always hidden in some obscure cause like the Poor delta smelt.
Re: New instructions for AB 1253 letters
Right you are sir... which is why it important for us not to sit back and let it just happen. Thanks for your involvement!

Great vid!
This may seem like a stupid question, but where are the major organizations in support of all this? What about regional orgs/clubs/sponsors?
Seems if they already have the constituency, that would be a logical starting point to build the awareness.
Maybe they already do and I am completely clueless.
