Motor hour dispute

This guy I know and I were down at the ole watering hole yesterday and we were talking about engines.His partner's boat blew his power head at only 500 hour's.

I said "yea that's a little pre mature". Then he sat there and told me his last boat he got 25000 hours out of it.

Well I basicly told him he was full of crap and he swore up and down it was the truth. I dont believe him but has anyone heard of an outboard getting that many hour's out of it.

Then he's run the motor for 1000 days straight for 24 hour/day.

Show him the math. 24hours/day. 25,000 is over 1000 days straight without turning off the motor.

Another example; if he drive the boat 4 hours per day, everyday for 17 years straight, (it would take 6250 days@ 4 hours/day to accumulate 25,000 hours.)

10,000-20,000 hours is common for 4 stroke outboards run all day every day in commercial applications with proper maintenance

For a 2 stroke on a bass boat, probably not

using an average of 3 hr running time per day of fishing that would be 8,333 days !!! or..........every day for 22.83 years !!!!!! I want that job that will allow him to do that. LOL LOL

He probably has one of those hour meters that read in tenths, He read it as 25000 but it really reads 250.00 Hours.
25000 hours on a outboard would put the manufacturers out of business

Do the math as other guys say. Nonsense for 25000 hrs.

Did you look at the meter real carefully for the decimal point? It could read as 250.00 or 2500.0 hours.

Note the hour, run the boat for 30 minutes and note the time again. The difference should say 0.5 hour. Or try it for an hour and it should flip exactly one hour. Timing could be off in his case.

Yes. My Etec 225 h.o. had almost 300 on it until the number one injector had to be replaced. Evinrude overnighted it to Capitol City, and they got it done the next day. I am not sure I would call replacing and injector major.

If you were to believe his story's KVD is a chump compared to him. Now I dont mind a little stretching of the truth but if your going to tell these fables at least pick someone that has not been fishing for 40 years.

Well after awhile,and a half dozen Beer's,it was quit amuzzing to listen to him. No I was not driving.

No matter what story I told he had one better. I turned him on to the Striper bite at San Luis a few years ago. Well I told him I went last Saturday to check thing's out. I know this Lake like the back of my hand and's it's still to early for the reaction bite.Well I told him I got skunked not one bite.

Well low and behold he went a few day's before me and cought over 25 fish...............no you didnt.
