Buzz Bait Rod....prefer Powell.......
Looking for a new Buzz Bait rod, prefer Powell......anyone out there throwing a Powell for buzz baits and if so, which rod to you recommend?? 100% Delta fishing!
Thanks!
Thanks!

I don't really think you need a dedicated buzzbait rod. I just use a 7'6" Diawa Light and Tough flipping stick with 17lb P-line 100% florocarbon. I prefer the 7'6" because I can get a longer cast out of the buzzbait, but any rod will do.

Powell 735 MH. I've caught 10lbers on buzzbait and absolutely own the fish with this rod! We're not fishing for guppies here! D.B.COOPER

Powell 806 with #50 Braid on an E7 ........ Can huck it a country mile and horse them to the boat out of any slop.
Fishermans Warehouse ordered the Powell 806 for me - and had it shipped to my house for free.

I used a powell 705 all day today at Salt Springs. No problems! As others suggested a 735 would be a great rod.

Forgot to mention .... the 806 I use is a CB as well that big bass beckstrom pointed out to me.DeltaDan wrote:Powell 806 with #50 Braid on an E7 ........ Can huck it a country mile and horse them to the boat out of any slop.
So then it would be the Powell 806cb.
Add to the end of the bait -- some pinch weights and stinger hooks added .......with your trailor.
Only so far this year the Buzz Bait Bite has not been what it has been for myself and others as well ~ as in the past last year's. Hopefully in 2 more weeks at the most it will be crackin' - But the same has been the pattern for myself as well for the reaction SB bite as well so far !!

Even the open water frog fish are taking 3 to 8+ swirells on that bait - before they finally suck it down !! FUN STUFF TO WATCH !! - I just wish there was more weight to them than the ones I have been getting!!

I think the N. Koreans have that Nuke pointed to us .... and the fish ALREADY know that ~ and are bunkered down until 2012 when the world ends .... and the pumps are finally shut off for good !!

DeltaLuke and I are heading out early tommorow .... Hopefully something good pop's for us in the morning after the crest of the high.

The 765 CB SBR is an awesome rod that doubles as a great Basstrix/small swimbaits rod. Has a great tip for allowing the fish to take the bait, but lots of backbone to get them out of cover... Powell all the way......

Re: Buzz Bait Rod....prefer Powell.......
I just bought a Powell 735MH for this past weekend on the Delta, (too bad Berkeley doesn't make a decent frog!) I threw it maybe an hour total and would now like to sell it because it does not fit in my rod locker (Phenix seems to have a telescoping rod that feels good so I'll switch t that) So if you decide on a 735 which is a GREAT rod I'll sell you this one for $135. Just PM me if interested.
Re: Buzz Bait Rod....prefer Powell.......
The Powell 754cb (glass) is a Glass rod specific to baits that need a little give and more parabolic bend to them. i personally use this rod because it provides the fish a little more time to take the bait on top just in case I get trigger happy. If you like a fishing rod with less parabolic bend and more of a fast tip then I would reccomend the 734cf. This is also a great rod for carolina riggin as well. The other choice would be a 765 cb/sbr which is more of a parabolic bend than the cf and longer which aids in further casts. I personally love this rod for rattle traps and ripping baits through the grass.

I will second the 734cf. I threw it on the delta a good bit and it works very well with buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits.
Re: Buzz Bait Rod....prefer Powell.......
Powell 806! It depends on how they are eating the bait though... The 806 is great for long casts and for when they come up and slurp or just take it down. The action of this rod will allow the fish to take it before you hit the backbone of the rod. If they are really crackin' it, I will go to a 766! The 766 is the same rod I use for frogs. I do prefer a longer rod than most, but when throwing these baits you count on getting a 5lb bite or bigger!

734 CF! Great rod! this is my choice for open water! When throwing to cover I prefer a 7 fter. just because I am more accurate!
