Did ranger boats close its doors
Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
Most boat and car companies close down around this time of year for what is known as re-tooling or model change over.
While it may be a little longer this year it is nothing out of the normal.

Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
I just ordered 2 2010 Ranger Boats this week and they are closed down the entire month of June and the first two weeks of July.
I guess they just released to there dealers a BK restructured price list with the prices going up a little here and there.
If you call there parts line, they are open as well as the office.

Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
Not re-tooling. They said it was slow boat sales and they had cut from 800 to 450 employees and those are off for 4 weeks with no pay. Not good to raise prices right now. My biz has had to lower our prices and we only sell to millionaires.
Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
What did you order?
I'll be placing my order pretty soon.

Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
Its odd but it seems like everything is going up in price.
I think these boat companies need to check themselves. Someone PLEASE tell me why a top of the line bass boat is 58k.

FLIPPIN, Ark. (AP) — Ranger Boats is doubling a two-week layoff, which the Flippin manufacturer says is needed because of reduced demand.
The plant is down to 450 workers from about 800 last year. Ranger Boats president Randy Hopper says the factory will open July 6.
Ranger Boats is owned by Minnesota-based Genmar Holdings Inc., which filed for bankruptcy protection on June 1. But Hopper says the shutdown is not related to that filing.
Ranger makes fiberglass fishing boats and is one of 13 brands owned by Genmar, which filed for Chapter 11. Genmar has about $1 billion in annual sales.

Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
Just because the economy is in the dumps, it doesn't neccessarily mean prices will go down. You have to look at the products/commodities used in manufacturing a boat, they will determine the price. Resins, fiberglass, and other products are not going down in price. Some businesses have enough margin in their products to lower their prices, others simply do not, and they will size the company according to sales revenue. Shedding nearly half your workforce is never fun, but regaining correct ratios for the market is necessary and it tells you Ranger is on top of things and adjusting their business to current product demands.
Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
While the shutdown may seem a little extreme, it is very normal. I worked for Ranger for 2 years and we welcomed the time off. It always happened in the summer. After 10 hour days sometimes 6 days a week we didn't mind a little rest and during that time unemployment kicked in so it wasn't so bad. I am also not surprised that Ranger has gone to half rations with their employees. Lots of bosses not enough workers. I quit Ranger back in Oct. to work at a place closer to home because of the gas prices, couldn't afford the drive. I wouldn't worry to much about Ranger going under. It is a great boat co. I know because I saw the checkpoints a boat had to go through before it ever got loaded on a trailer.
Thanks
Thanks
Ha! I got out of California
Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
If you want to survive in today's economy you will,or damn well better, lower your price.
We supply alot of Plumbing,Hydronic Heating and Underground Utilities, sewer, water and storm drain. Were Wholesale and you dont have price tag's on anything it's negotialable (sp)
Guy's were not even bidding on job's they were getting call's just to show up. Now there all bidding on one job. Some are just bidding low to break even and keep the good hand's. We call it buying a job.
Believe me breaking even today is pretty good BUT it will turn around.
Mike

My god.
This is common place now.
Many, many companies across industry segments are enforcing mandatory company wide shutdowns, typically on a quarterly basis.
Jeesh....bunch of drama queens.

I could list many, but I'm sure most of you are quite capable of using the internet to find out yourself.
We now know Ranger is one in the marine industry, try looking into the automakers and their associated suppliers, in high-tech look at Adobe and Autodesk. Common practice to save valuable resources (people!) in times of economic turmoil of unknown duration.

Aligning workforce ratios to actual demand for product is a first step. I know very little about Ranger or Genmar, but manufacturing is manufacturing regardless if you build a paper clip or a boat, and that I do know a little something about. Reading your posts it appears your not a "Happy Ranger" and that's fine, but when a company makes adjustments to staffing, inventory, manufacturing plans and schedules it generally indicates they have a plan in place.

Right and if you do some research you'll find that employees remaining are typically subjected to further wage adjustments and work hour adjustments, including company wide closures. This is common place across industries. What's truly unique now is this is not limited to an industry or two but the economic slowdown is so broad it is affecting just about all industry segments. (Except our damn government....go figure huh?)

Irwin Jacobs,
Genmar has used Ranger Boats as a springboard to other industries, including energy and technology. One technological advance Jacobs is proud to have been a part of is slashing the time needed to make a fiberglass boat from more than six hours to a mere 35 minutes. That a lot of boats in a 10 hr day.
Ive built a lot of boats years ago but not in 35 minutes, 7 hrs was the fastest back then. And that was inboards family and ski boats.

Since there always seems to be a lack of correct info on the internet, let me explain that every year that We have been a dealer [2002] they shut down in mid june to get ready for the dealer meeting in july. That is what they are currently doing. The Ranger dealer meeting is a giant production for them as a huge part of their years orders come from there. The only way Ranger will EVER go under is if boating is banned worldwide. Rick G.
Anglers Marine has been serving Southern California boaters and fishermen since 1981, with the West's largest bass fishing tackle store and the best boat dealership on the west coast.

Rick,
Do you think you could get a video of them making a boat in 35 minutes?
That has to be amazing to see.

You might pay a little more but it is all about the boat. I have fished out of Rangers, Champions, Bass Cats, skeeter and a nitro and the Ranger wins hands down. Smoothest ride and the most stable boat you can buy.

^ You can't compare champion, nitro, skeeter, and bass cat to a Ranger. Thats like saying a Bentley is a nicer car than honda, toyota, ford, and gm. I would say triton is just as good as a ranger.
Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
anyone who fishes rough water knows you cant beat a champion. If you dont think that then , you havent been in rough water yet. The second you guys hit some real weather you will have a change of heart.

In my NITRO, in rough water, I can still eat my Del Taco 1/2pound green burrito and wash it down with a Macho D-coke. Also Eric moomma doesn't get wet.

Re: Did ranger boats close its doors
Why would any manufacturer who charges 50 grand for a boat brag about popping them out in 35 minutes? Even fishermen are smart enough to know that with wholesale discounts on all components that the actual margin is huge. Their problem was no sales due to financing which is closing thousands of businesses every day. They will either lower their pricing or never come back. Same applies to any business now. I have wealthy clients hammering us for a 30% discount on price and yet none of our costs have declined by 30%. Crazy times.
