new world record bass!
I just got an e-mail from our Japanese bass-fishing friend.
A new world record bass was caught at Lake Biwa, Japan!
22 pounds, 5-ounces
29.4 inches long
Weighed on a certified scale
I don't know too much else right now.
You can read a little about it on www.bloodydecks.com

I have seen that picture before. Not sure how long ago. As with any "supposed" world record take it with a grain of salt. Mack, Leah, never got the record.
Re: new world record bass!
It wasn't the same picture. Look at the other thread, both are posted there.Swimbait Wannabe wrote:I have seen that picture before. Not sure how long ago. As with any "supposed" world record take it with a grain of salt. Mack, Leah, never got the record.

Now that you mention it, I have seen that pic before too and it was quite a while ago. I think I saw that pic in 08 on a website affiliated with some tackle manufacturer but I cant be sure. I know I saw that quite a while ago and it might have been the Deps site,Swimbait Wannabe wrote:I have seen that picture before. Not sure how long ago. Another fish, not this one. The "other" bass was a swimbait fish.

Yep. The bait was in the picture and it was on the same measuring tape. It just looks a lot alike.Guy Williams wrote:Another fish, not this one. The "other" bass was a swimbait fish.

I believe it won't qualify for an IGFA World Record unless it beats the current world record by at least 2 ounces.

Re: new world record bass!
Some people just can not be believed at all, no matter what they say. And I do not believe that this fish will make the world record, just to many things appear to be false and it also. When the new world record comes, it will be in the USA and will have all the right dots crossed and t's made. Bill KSteelheads wrote:I know, but if I tell the truth I'm gonna be removed from here.

Re: new world record bass!
Bill K, just curious as of to what appears to be false about this catch? Maybe you are seeing something I'm not. We've all seen a lot of "potential" world records caught in the last decade or so, and to me, this one most definitely appears to be the most legit out of all of them. It looks to me as though all the precautions have been made. Heck, they've even got the fish dead and frozen!
You are right though, it won't be the new world record. IGFA rules state that the record has to be beat by 2 ounces. This fish doesn't even beat it by a full ounce. If it makes it through the application process, it will only tie George Perry's bass. If you ask me, I think this Japanese guy's name is goin' in the book with George Perry.

your correct that the fish is real but there are a lot of holes in the story coming from people who were there, around and seen the fish and know the fisherman... time will tell. end of story.201Pro wrote:This is for real guys!!!!

I quess, I say this, due to the fact that several have claimed a new world or state record and they have all proved false/scams.
I also believe that it will be very hard to record and have a valid weight, when the fish is or has been frozen, as that will effect the actual weight on the time of the catch.
So, I believe, this one will prove false also. At least that is where I am coming from. Bill K

Re: new world record bass!
I'm still interested to know what some of these "holes" in the story are...especially from Hollywood since he is the man on the "inside loop" with this one. Like I said, we've all seen a lot of "world records" make it into the headlines over the last several years, but those were all pretty clearly false and had some very obvious holes in actually making them official world records. If there are any holes with this one...they are far less obvious than anything we've seen in the past if you ask me. So far I still haven't heard or read of any reasons why the IGFA wouldn't accept this one as a record. With all the other claims before this there were some very obvious reasons for the IGFA not accepting them. Just what it looks like to me...
Heh, I just think ya'll are bitter that it came from Japan and not CA.
And believe me...I'd love to see it come from CA, but it is what it is...

I am not the man on the inside loop. lol.... And you will see bigger come from Biwako! They have already netted and killed 1 slightly over 25lbs this year by a carp fisherman. I am sure IGFA will accept this one.............
Re: new world record bass!
Funny you mention carp. I heard that was the live bait used to catch this fish.

Re: new world record bass!
So now we are saying the Kurita bass was full of carp!
Unless it's illegal to fish with a live carp in Japan, the bass has been carefully documented to meet the standard IGFA rules.
The one hurdle that remains is that Ray Scott requires a lie detector test as a IGFA board member. Time doesn't always bring out the trueth, it can hide it. This time we have a bass with a photo and scale reference, witness, measurements that make sense and certified weight.

I was curious as to if he would have to submit to a lie detector test. I didn't see anything in the rules but I imagine there would be one done anyways.Oldschool wrote:So now we are saying the Kurita bass was full of carp!

there are no reports of a live carp being used for bait!
Re: new world record bass!
exactly...all it was reported as is live bait. Why do people assume things? Its a giant fish...people are bitter its in Japan and good sources have seen the fish. Seems legit to me.Hollywood wrote:Oldschool wrote:So now we are saying the Kurita bass was full of carp!

Mr. Kurita caught the giant fish as described in my previous posts at Lake Biwa, Shiga Prefecture Japan. Certified weight 10.12 kilos.
Biwako (Biwa Lake) is divided into two large parts--the northern part, which is very clear, rocky and extremely deep, and the southern, or "Nanko"section, which is mostly shallow (less than 30 feet), and surrounded by tulies/reeds. The fish was caught in the Nanko section.
The fish was caught on live bait--specifically a Japanese Koi (carp) on a Deps rod using 25 lb. line.
One thing to note, and we have all experienced this (or worse!) is that as the fish was netted, with a bass hand landing net, the hook pulled loose!
As I mentioned, and will not get into here, it is illegal for most anglers to catch and release bass at Biwako.
That said, Mr. Kurita kept the bass in is livewell, as Mr. Okamura of Deps was contacting the Biwa Lake aquarium, and other research institutes. As I mentioned, due to the difficulties of catch and release, as well as transporting live fish laws and regulations, they did not want to release this info until they were in compliance with all regulations (they were). Being an old, tired girl, the fish soon died in the livewell that evening.
The fish is now properly frozen to preserve the fish, while documents are being reviewed for and submitted to various record keeping agencies.

Re: new world record bass!
Unless Ray Scott changes his mind or removes himself from the voting board of the IGFA, he has stated several times that any new world record bass must pass a lie detector test. History is full of false bass applications. The smallmouth WR bass was overturned based on sworn affidavid of cheating.
Everyone keeps stating that dottie was 25.1 lbs, the catch never offically weighed on a certified scale, the weight was the anglers uncalibrated digital hand held scale. Digital scales can be off by a factor if the battery is low for example.
The Kurita bass should pass the IGFA rules, Scotts test and be certified as the co-world record. The bass is the right length and extremely heavy bodied bass and looks legit to me.
The Shimada 19.4 lb prior Japanese record looks like a twin to the Kurita bass, just about 1" shorter.

I bet these other sites and such crediable references are not reporting that the pier he caught it under is in a very big off limits for fishing area? And that he has been seen fishing this area for almost a month straight.
And yes there are many more bass in biwako of this size if not bigger!
just as they are saying koi or carp here in the states, it was more like wakasagi or another similar bait fish....
