Wounded Warrior tournament

Post by Timber_Effects »

Delta Bass Tactics fishing club held our first annual Wounded Warriors fishing tournament and Thank A Vet Day at Whiskey Slough Marina on Hwy 4 on Saturday, Aug 15. The event was held to thank wounded soldiers and veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns for their service to our country. Several other clubs also participated in order to provide enough boats for the event. In the tournament, Vets were each teamed with a bass angler as fishing partners for the day. At the end of the six hour fishing period, fish from each team were weighed in to determine the winners, and then the fish were released alive. A barbecue and raffle followed the event. Participants were provided with tackle packs and snacks for the fishing period. After weigh-in, participants were each provided with special commemorative tee shirts. A free raffle was conducted and winning Vets won many fishing and apparel items.

The work was carried out by DBT wives and club members. Many businesses and individuals donated money, food, and other give away and raffle fishing tackle and apparel items from Bassaholics, Black Dog baits, Ferguson. Food donors include Famous Dave’s BBQ, Safeway and Waazu Barbecue Sauce. Tackle donors include Mel Cotton’s Sporting Goods, Black Dog Baits, Tom Coss Fishing, Mayhem Lures, Tracy Oasis Marina, C&C Marine, and Escalon Bait and tackle. Tables, chairs, tents and other items were provided by Santa Clara Plating Co., Inc.

The tournament winners were Vet “Angel Gomezâ€

Evergreen Bass Club in Washington State will also be taking 70 plus wounded warriors out this Saturday for a morning of fishing, followed by a lunch from Longhorn BBQ. It should be a great time, and it is nice to see that you did so well with your event. Like your event, there are so any sponsors that help to make it possible. This is our first year of an annual event, so we are trying to keep it small to get the final touches down before making it available to other clubs to help with. Really looking forward to it.

Dean,

Thanks for puting on this event. It sounds like you and your club had a very successful event. If you do it next year I know of many "wounded warriors" that would love to participate. I work at the VA in Palo Alto and there are many who would love to have the chance that you provided. I hope to be involved next year. Thanks again.

I would rather jog home from my own Vasectomy than spend Saturday at the mall.

Hi Scott, next we would be honored to have those vets sign up for our event. After seeing how this event went, we have had a many people ask to be a part of next years tournament. I think next year is going to much bigger and and alot of fun.
