New Skeet Rods
Has anyone used Skeet's new rods yet? I was thinking of getting a new flippin stick and a jig rod.

Re: New Skeet Rods
I was wondering the same thing.I saw them at Fisherman's Warehouse this weekend.
They looked good but did feel a bit tip heavy.the guide setup on the spinning rod was different too.
I liked the looks of them, i just dont know if i can handle the bright yellow color..

Re: New Skeet Rods
Personally, I like the tip heaviness...it's just right. When you have a heavier tip...you can make lures react differently when you snap the slack out of the line or twitch it. It takes less effort and is more precise when its not a light/mushy tip.
You can also rip rattlin' baits through weeds better. You just can't build the momentum you need if the tip is too light and wimpy.
Topwater baits like spooks or Punkers, also respond better with less effort when you have more weight at the tip.
As far as the color...it's a bit over the top...but the fish don't care.
The price is also right!~

I have 2 of them. So far I really like em. Great action, light considering the price, and they balace out great with a revo on em. I bought the cranking rod and the worm/jig rod. From what I can tell this far I will but more.
Fishing should be fun.

i have 3 of each. i love them. they could make a heavier swimbait rod for punkers and wake jr's, but i have found that the flippin rod is awesome for it.

in some cases I agree you get what you pay for, but when $300+ rods cost $30-$50 to produce I dunno....

I bought the 8' rod and I love it its light for an 8' rod and strong! I was throwing a proto type punker (one of the originals) with it up at Amador this punker was heavier then the production models but the rod worked great, I just got home from fishing the Delta and rigged it with the Punching set up 1 oz. wieghts and it worked great I stuck a few 3 lb'ders on high tide with it. I am very happy with the rod I am going to buy another 8' also and gonna buy the 7' 6" on Tuesday

I have yet to play with them, but I have talked to some of the reps who were at ICAST when they came out, and they seemed to like them. I was saddened when Skeet left Lamiglas, but I just got a hold of the new Excel series and it feels good. Can't wait to try out a Skeet stick.

Re: New Skeet Rods
Fishermans wherehouse had what must be the entire line up of them. I don't want to say anything negative but they were all heavy and way unbalanced. I walked out with another Powell. I wasn't impressed. I hope they redesign those, I like the lower price idea the rest of it sucks though IMO.
Please don't get all upset people it's just my opinion. I will stick with my powells, lami, and loomis rods.

What Mike said.. You get what you pay for.
Re: New Skeet Rods
I would ussally agree with that statment but maybe just maybe a manufacture is looking out for the little guy in these hard times and not being so greedy, I own loomis,lami,etc... but I am very happy with the rod give one a try you might be suprized, if yall believe in dropping hundreds on rods then 90 bucks should be a drop in the bucket

Re: New Skeet Rods
you are paying for everyone elses lifetime warranty. What is even worse is they are now asking for a 50-100$ fee... that is the COST of 2 RODS. But you got your 300$ replaced.Steve Reed wrote:in some cases I agree you get what you pay for, but when $300+ rods cost $30-$50 to produce I dunno....

I I don't think I could get past the color to even want totry to find out if they'r any good. But I would suspect it's another you get what you pay for deal, I'll stick with my powell's.

Re: New Skeet Rods
In my opinion,,,I don't think SR built these rods for the West Coast,,,,If you look at the Elite Pros, Most use BPS Rods in one form or another.
I think Skeet and Wright were structuring their sales too the East Coast and too the South where the majority of the fisherman are with lesser income then the West. Look where all the BPS stores and Dicks Sporting Goods are located.
I would say the whole rod is built for 35-42 dollars. The original Flipp'in Stick that Dee Thomas invented in the 70's thru Dave Meyer of Fenwick was sold to the store's for $38.00. Retail 75.00
Just my thoughts so know you can harious me, I don't know squat.

I wish the $300+ rods my company is producing only cost $30-$50, I'd be stylin' if that were the casein some cases I agree you get what you pay for, but when $300+ rods cost $30-$50 to produce I dunno....

Re: New Skeet Rods
for the delta, is the 8' rod more of a jig rod or punching rod?
