Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
I dropped off my Dobins rod at the store I bought it from just over 4 weeks ago with a broken tip. Still no rod and they say they have nothing to do with it once they send it in. How long do they normally take to return a broken rod? I miss my Dobyn crankin rod.

Dobyns Rods is current with all warranties. If you check our website you will see that our email address is dobynsrods@comcast.net If you need help with something you can contact us there or call us. We can't help with what we don't know about.
The last one of these posts turned out to be a hoax. Just like the Ranger deal the other day. Why don't anglers contact the company if you have a legit concern? Most will try to fix things to your satisfaction promply. I don't like you missing that rod either. I wish I knew about it, You would of had it a month ago.

I think I found your problem, somebody sold you a counterfeit rod dude, all mine say Dobyns!

Re: Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
I just sent 2 broken rods in, and it only took a week for me to get the new ones. I sent them straight to Dobyns. I did not go through a tackle store so maybe that is what causing the delay. Talk to Richard. He is the one that took care of me. He did a great job.

Wish I woulda known that... I had a guide break on my 703c, and I took it back to the shop where I bought it...took over two months for it to come back. Still, it was well worth the wait... Dobyns definitely made it right, no questions asked!! Rod came back like new, only had to pay for shipping. I still don't know how the guide broke...may have been a defect, or I coulda stepped on it or crunched it with a hatch lid...just don't know...Matt B. wrote:I just sent 2 broken rods in, and it only took a week for me to get the new ones. most shops will wait till they have5 or ten or however many broken rods that will fit in a large tube to send to the manufacturer. Just so they dont waste tons of $$$ on shipping individual rods. sometimes it may take a month or more to get enough rods

Well, Ken. I am pretty appoachable and I put my personal address on here many times and even my cell. You could contact us through the website or company phone listed on our website. I also have plenty of staffers that would help in an instant.
Again, I can't fix anything I don't know about. We are breaking very few rods, far less than industry percentage. Almost none really. The problem is guys wanting to purposely break the old rods for the new Korean rods. I still warranty these also.
The old saying you can't please everyone............well that really holds true here.

Ken I live in Georgia and even I know how to get ahold of Gary. PHone # is on the website and so is the email. Simple email or phone call or even a post on here would have gotten you taken care of. How would you like it if someone came on the internet blasting your business but you had absolutely NO CLUE about that particular instance?? You simply won't find a more straight shooter than Gary.ken stevens wrote:BOUGHT 3 DOBYNS RODS SOMETIME BACK, BROKE TIP OF 1- FIRST TIME OUT !! Gary and his staff work hard to get these resolved quickly, bringing it to the forum before contacting the Dobyns Rod office... "Bad Deal Dude" famous qoute I heard somewhere before.
I would encourage everyone no matter what the problem go direct to the source FIRST... Really not fair to air here, it's a Bad Deal for everyone.

Re: Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
i broke 705c dobyns rod a while back and called the place i bought it from and since it was a generation 1, they told me they didnt deal with it and were no help whatsoever. then i went in to my local tackle shop and asked the guys about it and they said they would call gary and find out. after a week and them still not knowing anything, i went to the dobyns rod website and got the phone number and called. Gary was out of the country, but i talked to richard and he spoke with the tackle shop and worked it out with me. i went in there the next day and got a new one right off the shelf for the warrenty cost. i really appriciate the service that dobyns rods gives. in fact i went and bought 765. great rods and great service, they will keep my business.
if you have an issue, instead of bringing it up on the boards and making someone seem like they arent doing their job or screwing their customers, give the business/guy a call. you'll get your rod/product faster and not bash anyone.

Re: Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
Well, I've never broken a Dobyn's rod. So, I've never used the warranty service. I did buy a generation 1 swimbait rod..not used...but as a clearance deal from the baitbarn... at a reduced price and was given full waranty rites.
I've had reason to ask questions and advice from Gary and found him very available and helpful.

Re: Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
Hey Ken,
I know personally that if Gary or Richard knew about the rod it would be taken care of promptly. Sometimes even a good shop can take a warranty rod that comes in and put it back on the rack without notifying the customer. This is not so uncommon, we are all human after all.
As for your comment "NO MORE DOBYNS RODS FOR ME !!" you are only letting miscommunication keep you from using some of the best rods on the market today.
In your signature you mention, "Life is good, Heaven is better, be ready for both!" I would assume from that statement that you are a Christian like me and a situation like this is a great place to treat others like you want to be treated. Look at the situation from the other parties point of view and give everyone concerned a chance. If you were on the other side of this I'm sure you would want to hear from the customer personally so you could do what is right.
Just my thoughts,
Ken Sauret

I'm calling BS here.
Who the heck would wait four months and not pick up the phone or send an email themselves? If I used a dealer, then didn't hear back in a week, I'd have a conversation with them. If they blamed the manufacturer, then I would call the manufacturer and get it figured out.
I surely wouldn't wait till I see a post them jump in and bash them without ever have tried to call or email.
Weird! Come on we are grown adults on this site, are we not?

MY POST WAS IN RESPONSETO SOMEONES PROBLEM SIMULAR TO MINE. NOT TO TRASH MR. DOBYNS.. JUST THE FACTS. YOU WILL RECALL I BOUGHT 3 RODS !! I STILL USE THESE RODS AND FIND THEM TO BE GOOD STICKS. I BOUGHT A NEW PICKUP AND HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH IT.. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT . I DID NOT FEEL I NEEDED TO CALL GENERAL MOTORS !! I BOUGHT THE RODS AT A PRO SHOP THAT REPS. DOBYNS RODS --NOT WAL MARTS OR THE LOCAL THRIFT STORE !! APPEARS TO ME THERE COULD BE BETTER COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THE MANUFACTURER AND HIS PRO SHOP DEALERS ???--------IF THE DOBYNS STAFF WANT TO TALK FUTHER ABOUT THIS ISSUE MY NAME IS ATTACHED TO MY POST--
LIFE IS GOOD , HEAVEN IS BETTER, BE READY FOR BOTH !!!!-----------------------------
Re: Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
I don't post a lot, but would like to step in on this one! I had a Dobyns 805 CBRM rod snap, during the time they were out of production. As SOON as they had rods back in inventory, they took care of all warranty rods before they sold a rod. This is as STAND-UP as a company can be!! Please contact the company before posting negative comments on a public forum. I am positive they would and will "STAND UP" Thanks, Clark Small
Re: Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
Well Ken, reading your post, one would have to assume it is from you about you ? "No more Dobyns rods" ?? I also have broken my (2) Dobyns rods, by accident, Warranty, no way, was my fault, so I will not claim warranty. Darn rod locker door would not stay up, maybe Ranger warranty or rod locker shock warranty; Na.
Dobyns rods, best I ever had in my hand, I miss them. Just can not afford new ones.

Re: Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
That is a terrible analogy Ken. The Dealer where you bought your vehicle has a vested interest in contacting the manufacturer because they are the one doing the work and they will want to be paid. A tackle shop is not doing waranty work or getting paid for it, no vested interest. I'll bet if you had a warranty claim denied you would be contacting the manufacterer. I just had t happen to me with my car, and guess what, after I called the manufacturer they covered it.
The point is, had you contacted Dobyn's Rods, I bet you would have got the sevice you wanted. Sorry it happened to you but to blame the company for it when you haven't even addressed it with them is not right.
Good fishing to you,
Tony Franceschi

Mr. Stevens, My Name is Mark Hiser, I am the Dobyns Rod Staffer that services Phil's Shop in Redding. In reading your post, I can only surmise that unfortunately you bought those rods and had one break at the time we had discovered a problem with the factory producing those rods for us. The decision was made to pull all remaining rods off the shelf, while another manufacturer was being brought on line to produce the Generation II models that are available now. There was a several month lapse in availability for rods, I thought this was conveyed to each dealer, and again on the internet through many different fishing forums.Obviously I did not make that clear enough to this particular dealer, or perhaps it just was not an acceptable explanation. In the past, when I have picked up warranty rods from Phil's, I have not required a phone number on the ticket, they keep that info so they can communicate with the customer as to when the new product is ready to be picked up....... I will make damn sure I get a phone number and name from this point forward. I apologize for not doing this from the start, I can see now that it was a huge mistake on my part.
I represent Dobyns Rods, I believe they are the finest rods on the market today, and our customer service to be second to no one.
Thank You for using the Dobyns Rods you still have, I hope they continue to serve you well, and I hope you picked as good a rod for replacement as what you would have been given had you waited.
This post was made on the internet in response to your post made on the internet, another was pm'ed to you.

Yep same with me. They shipped me a new one for free! So far my other 1st gen 805 has been ok with no problems. Re: Whats with the month wait for my Dobins rod?
CATCHEMCARO,
A rod manufacturer can set their warranty policy.
But they can't set how each individual retailer handles returns.
So thrashing them for something they may not have even known about is ufair.
I've broken several rods over the years.
I had one swapped out over the counter, even though the retailer said it wasn't the manuf.'s policy, because I knew the store owner.
I've also cut out the rod label and sent it directly in to the manuf., and been sent a replacement rod, for a small fee.
But I've always gotten service. I just had to make an effort.
Rod makers know it's a competive market out there, and that making the best product, and providing the best service, is the only way to set themselves apart.
And smaller makers, like Dobyns, actually care more, because they aren't giants, so small glitches, either in rod performance or service, are magnified.
I don't think Gary Dobyns got into making rods to get rich. I'm pretty sure, if you ask him, it has been a long, painful process, and still is.
But, I've spoken to him from time to time, and you can rest assured that he approaches it like he does fishing.
He does his best, and wants to be the best.
So, the next time you have a problem with a rod, take it straight to the manuf., or be prepared to live with how a local retailer does or doesn't handle it.
