level playing field

Post by lacy10 »

Someone is going to have to explain to me how fair a Tournament is , if a few select people get to launch and fish for weeks before everyone else, fair , not they already have a head start

I'm guessing he is talking about DVL. Lots of pros whos scheduales will allow them to fish alot of upcoming events at the lake have been able to launch from a secondary ramp and fish the lake from there own rigs. Are these same guys going to be allowed to fish in the same events as the guys who have either resorted to prefishing from rental boats or waited for the lake to open to launching. Not much in this game bothers me but I felt I had to chime in on this one.

I understand what you're sayin and where it may be a slight advantage. Personally, it doenst bother me. Its not like those guys who have special access (promotional activties) are out there everyday/weekend. And, anyone who's spent any amount of time on DVL know that those fish seem to dissappear come derby day.

Its happens all the time Lacy. It happend at DVL before the lake originally opened long ago. It will happen again. As far as a clear cut advantage? There really isnt one. If you do your homework the right way it shouldnt matter what boat you are in.

The lake is going to continue to rise, so areas they targeted in their own rig will have changed.. water temp will have changed... fishing pressure will INCREASE GREATLY once it is open. All playing huge factors in how the fish will respond.

So basically what they are seeing out there right now will be greatly different come derby day. No need to get worked up about it. It's not going to change them from acting differently in the future.

It just makes it that much sweeter when you beat them 8)

its the same old story for most lakes... a lot of derby fisherman WORK during the week and others have the luxury of fishing daily.

like some guy said...you can't worry about the other guys out there. the ONLY thing that matters is what you and your partner are doing in YOUR boat and how you are fishing.

Pre-fishing, in any sense is the same on most lakes around So-cal. once you put that mind set aside its a GREAT feeling beating those guys!

Ok let's look at it this way . I am thinking about fishing the Charity Tournament with NBW in a few weeks. And I am sitting in a Local Tackle store and I here that a few people , regular teams on this circuit have been able to launch their own boats, and fish all day , Actually Prefishing , well excuse me,I don't have this opportunity, and neither do you , If I can just drive my boat around the lake for 5-6 hrs and look around ,it very much gives me a advantage , if I can make a few cast while I'm driving around it again gives me an advantage. I am able to see what the water is looking like after 1 year maybe a few changes since I fished it last. Also it narrows down a whole lot of things , which baits to throw, which points not to fish, don't go into that cove because the baits not their . Anyway my point is, I am fishing the Tournament I just don't think it is fair to allow a chosen few on the lake especially when theirs money involved

i have to agree with him on this one the lake is closed to the public why do only special people get to launch and fish the lake and why would a weekend or novice angler want to donate to someone who clearly has a advantage, this is supposed to be a charity event and it should at least be fair for everyone.

Who was on the lake?

Scott Martin, Gabe Bolivar, Brent Ehrler are the only PRO's that I know about. I'm pretty sure they won't be fishing this thing. Bring it on if they are.

I think Kyle Grover was there also doing an article for Bassmasters. Not sure if thats an advantage for him or not. He spanks us anyway most of the time.

I may of missed someone. Who cares. Win it and say you spanked them. Big Daddy Art Berry is there everyday and I would love to win so I can talk trash to him. Have Fun with it and enjoy yourself.

It's better to fish against the fish and not other anglers.

The way I see it, Not everything in life is perfect, some have earned or are given more opportunity then others. That's life.

In the words of my mother.....Life isn't fair.....Deal with it......

Man have those words helped me out over the years.

I have had some of my best finishes on bodies of water that I had no practice against the locals. I took two top 10s on the Delta this year with 3-4 hours of practice and I didn't need those 3-4 hours because I knew where I was going anyways.

The fish have no idea who is on the other line and some times practice takes away from your God given ability to find and catch fish...

Don't defeat yourself or give up before you even launch your boat. That's what we call dock talk.....

Do it for the kids!!!

Post by some guy »

Amen Ricky. The very first morning I was ever on Clear lake I had a 43lb bag. I never fished the lake before and cracked open one of my best days on the water ever in my life just messing around on vacation.

Point is Lacy, EVERYONE is beatable, especially in fishing.

We will be fishing the DVL event. Infact we are the first boat on the list. We welcome that challenge with open arms. Bring it!

Put on your game face and come out, its all about the charity anyways.

... hate the game. Nothing in the rules about being out there early so shouldnt be a big deal. Besides, its a fun derby for charity.

Just go out and beat the fish. If you beat the fish you will beat ANY man.

Some guy and ricky has it right.
I too fished only weekends and had wins where we had up to an 11 lb lead for the win (105 boats). Smallest, slowest boat in the money

Don't stress on who's who. Go catch um and you will beat them!

Best of luck.

Next time Lacy

Post by Rick G »

you are in the tackle store ask the very nice lady that runs it if her business is going to be better when the lake opens. In fact she has promoted getting it opened more than anyone could ask. The few select "Pro's" that got to go out were there on behalf of MWD for promotion of the lake and the surrounding area. One has a national TV show, one was a former World Champion and the others live out of state. All there to promote the Lake. The other "Pro" was there as a guest of MWD and DFG to do an article for Bassmaster Magazine. Could have gone to Perris, where he wins regularly, but went to DVL, again to promote the lake. This is all it is. Promotion. By the way, I went yesterday for the FIRST time since the lake was closed last year, on a guide trip with Art Berry and a few of my buddies. Lake is very new looking and the bite was very tough. But Art busts his butt for his clients all day and if you are going to fish the Charity event, I recommend you call him for a tune-up. 619-438-2620. The more folks that get exposure to DVL the better all the fishing related business will be. Rick G.

Don't even worry about it, its no diff then any other trny (but this 1 is for fun and the KIDS) some people fish alot some people work alot and some people are Just Lucky

On ANY GIVEN Day ANYONE Can Be Beat, and to tell you the turth what happen 2 weeks ago don't mean anything. That lake is changing with every gal of water that is coming in there, with diff weather everyday, with diff moon phase's, etc.......

And with this front coming though this weekend it will be a diff lake on monday then it was today

Don't worry about the next guy just go out and fish your game plan and maybe at the end of the day your p and you will be cashing a check and shaking hands with people

Sh*t Talking about P's I better get on the phone

Just go out and have fun on DVL

i dont see any thing wrong with promoting the lake it might actually do us some good and force them to build some permanent facilities for us. he made it seem like local pros where already fishing which doesnt seem to be the case.

people were out there 1 or 2 days... thats all. If you think you cant beat someone because they have 1 or 2 days on you than you are already setting yourself up for defeat.

Bottom Line

Post by Schneider Fishing »

There never has been; nor will there ever be a level playing field in any sport or for that matter in just about anything in life. There will always be someone with an edge in experience or equipment or knowledge.

Ask yourself why you want to fish and go from there.

Don't let the haters and the mind game players get you down. Go fish and have fun whether it be in tournaments or not.
