Accidental line cutter discovery

Post by Greg_Cornish »

Yesterday while tying on lures and leaders I was looking for something to cut off old lures. When some people cut them off they leave some line on the lure tie that has to be dealt with later, and it wastes time on the water when you want to tie them back on.

I opened my wife's junk drawer to look for scissors and found a pair of Safari Pet Toenail Clippers. They have blades that encircle the cat or dogs toenail and that works great for the line. You can circle the line with the jaws, pull down to the hook loop and put tension on you line and cut right through the knot completely freeing the lure or hook.

They are also very sharp, tight and precision. You can get them at Rainbow Agriculture and at most pet stores.

That's a good find. Did you happen to try them on braid?

Yes on 20 lb test. I'll try to get the wife to trudge through the garage for some heavier stuff and give it a shot.

EDIT:

I have 20 spools in a box in the garage- she can't find it.

If she's like my wife, after 5 seconds she's thinking of something else as she wanders thru the garage just looking but not seeing. LOL LOL

My wife only puts stuff 'into' the garage. She knows nothing about taking stuff 'out of' the garage.

I use my wife's old hair cutting scissors. When they're "too dull" for hair they're still sharp as hell. Check with your barber they get rid of their scissors pretty often.

Okay guys, here's the skinny. I tried these out on tight stretch 20 braid, they worked great. Anything above 30 lb braid, they simply suck. However, they cut all sizs of mono and a cool thing is the way the cut the knot off the hook.

But good call on the guess on heavier braid -not good!
