Average Length and Girth.

Post by lobina »

I know it varies from lake to lake and so on. But I recently caught a LB that weighed around 10.7 pounds. unfortunately we didnt have a tape measure on us. Since its my only bass in the ten pound range i am considering getting a replica, so i was wondering iif anyone could give me a rough estimate of what a fish this size usually measures. thanks

The average largemouth bass; northern strain the girth is about 75% of the length. FLMB are heavier bodied; the average in most CA lakes the girth is about 90% of the length.
NLMB: 25.5" length, 19.1" girth = 10.36 lbs.
FLMB: 24" length, 21.5" girth = 10.32 lbs
Weight is calculated; L x L x G /1200
L = length measured mouth closed to center of the flattened tail.
G= girth measured around the widest area, dorsal fin flattened.
formula is OK within 5% estimates.

Here's a tip I read when I was in this predicament. ...Use a piece of fishing line to measure the length and girth then measure when you get home. Take several pictures too. Then when you get your replica the taxidermist can make her look just like the one you let go.
I know it's too late for this to help you but someone else may benefit from it.

I believe this is a topic for the woman that might be on the forum. They would have a totally different perspective and would probably have the "real" answers.
