Which one to buy?

Post by Homer »

I saw another post with someone in a similar position as I am. My question is: Given the choice between buying any one of these 3 reels for the same very low price, which one would be the best choice, Zillion, Fuego or Viento. I have used the Quantum Energy and Accurist P.T.’s for a long time but I have an opportunity to purchase these Diawas.
Thanks for your recommendations.

The Zillion is the best of the three Mike - that is a much more expensive reel so if you can get it for the same as the others it would be the better value.

I have a bunch of them and LOVE them.

the viento is a joke and was way overpriced at 200. the fuego is a nice reel but the zillion is the best out of the three. go with the zillion its a complete step up from the energy

I picked up a couple of the Fuegos at the holiday season when they were about 10 bucks cheaper than the current closeout price at TW. I've been out a half dozen times to get familiar with them as I was used to fishing the Curado D's. They've worked great for me easy to handle and have been very user friendly even finessing small plastics. No problems other than a couple overruns due to operator error  . I will be getting more if money permits and they are still available. The Fuego is an ounce lighter than the Zillion due to the magnesium frame and sideplate that should be considered when using in brackish and salt conditions. I'm not going to worry too much since I keep things clean after use. You do miss out on the beefier drag, crbb's and swept handle the Zillion has. I know in the future I will upgrade to Zillions as they are just plain bada$$! Here's TT's review on the Fuego http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwafuego.html and also the Viento http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwaviento.html I've used a viento a bit and may pick "1" up for myself for bubba shotting. Good luck Mike!

Zillions are great reels. I abuse them, never oil or anything. No failures at all. Best reels I have ever used.

Thanks for all of the great input !!! The Zillion gets the close nod but I may also pick up the Fuego so it doesn't feel lonely.

Mark,
The fish in my avatar is a 9 1/2 lb'r from the lower lake. Use that one to show that I'm not just a 1 fish wonder. She had spawned out about 2 days before I caught her. Would have been my first double digit fish if I had ditched work a few days earlier !!!
