Looking to buy a generator. NEED Help!
Looking to buy a generator. NEED Help!
I am looking to buy a generator that can charge at least 2 boats at a time. Also one that I could use at my house if power ever went out. Prefer one that is gas, not LPG.
What size do I get?
Rather not spend more than $300, but honestly have no idea what to get or amount to spend. Must be quiet operating.
Any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks for your help.

I have one for sale but it looks like you live in the south. Do you ever come up north of Fresno? The freight would be horrendrous.

Rob go to HomeDepot.com there are a few that you can choose from. They don't ship to California but you can send it to your house in Havasu. With out a doubt the Yamaha 1000 or 2000 is perfect for what you are looking for, but they are 700 + at Cabelas. If noise isn't a problem just run to Pepboys and pick up a non inverter generator for 150.00
Good Luck....

This topic comes up often in the camping forums and overwhelmingly
the Honda 2000 is the crowd favorite. I have had mine for 3 years
and love it. They are costly but you might be able to find a used
one in or around your budget. They are light, quiet do not smell
so you can store inside cab of truck. I run my fridge off it in prolonged
power outages with no problem at all.

Thanks guys!
Re: Looking to buy a generator. NEED Help!
Unfortunately they don't make quiet generators in your price range. As has already been said, the inverter generators are the quiet ones, but you're looking at about $1000+ for a small one. Of those, the Hondas have the best reputation but they are very costly. For $300-500 you can get a 5KW non-inverter generator but it will be loud. I made the mistake of buying one of those when I had a power outage and I could hear it inside my house even when in the farthest room away from where it was outside.

I have a 1350 I paid $180 for. The neighbors threatened to kill me for running it and I had to nail it to the deck to keep from bouncing around. I went out and bout a Honda 3000 for $1600. You can have my old one free.

I got a Yamaha 1000 that I paid $700.00 for and am very happy with. It is pretty quiet and we got well over 100 of them, 1 on each engine in Riverside County. Very reliable and I did not use mine at home for 15 months and it started with the same gas in it.

Dude - spend the money, get the Honda 2000, and never look back. i got mine and never regret it. we use it at 49er tailgates and nobody knows we even have one its so quiet. i use it camping to charge my boat, and its done fast, so i usually then plug in another boat and do 2 at a time. no problems.

Honda all the way, you will be happier in the long run.

Whatever you do, do not buy one of those cheap no-name generators. I had one a few years ago. It was a POS. After a little use, it didn't run properly. It vibrated like crazy. I was constantly replacing nuts and bolts that rattled loose.
It was loud.
It leaked. I had to place a piece of plywood under it to keep the oil off the ground.
I got rid of it after I used it to power my refrigerator during a four-day power outage. On the third day, the refrigerator quit. The circuit board was fried by the generator.
Get a Honda or a Yamaha or even a Generac.

Honda 2000 is about 47lbs. You can connect two of them togethere
to have 4000w. The honda 3500 weighs about 145 lbs, hard for one person to load. I had a Colman 1800w that was so loud I would close it in the shed so I would not echo through the neighborhood when the power was out. I gave it away and got a honda 2000. It is GREAT!
I hear good things about the Yamaha, but I have experience with the Hondas and they are great and worth the money.Easy start and quiet.
