powell 763

Post by gofish42189 »

As I stated in another post I'm looking for a good c-rig rod. I've never used a powell, but I've heard a lot about them and am thinking about buying one with the btd sale. Anyone have any experience with this rod? I'm c-riggin with 12-15 lb test and normally use a 1/2oz weight with a kreature bait. Any advice on this or any other powell rods?

Don't think they make a 763 but a 764 or 734 both would be good for c-rig. I use a 734 and it works nice.

I use mostly the 734 works great and is the most versitle rod Powell makes, the 804 works fine too and has many applications .

Stop making new threads it's making my head spin :(

How deep is the water you're fishing, how much cover is there...how much are you willing to spend?

I would go with a Dobyns 764 if you're going to be using 1/2 oz weights.

The Powell is a great rod as well, but with the BTD 20% off sale it would be worth your while to try out a new Dobyns.

Sorry godshippy. :D I would like to keep the price around $150. It would be mostly for dvl, fishing 20-80ft with rock cover. I was doing some research and found someone recommend this model so I was just curious. Thanks.

I have been using my 765 for C-Rigging this winter. I know that this is a flippin stick but it has been a great c-rig rod as well as Small Swimbait rod for me this season. In the summer time it is my pitchin stick

So that is my vote.....ps I typically throw c-rigs on 3/4 - 1oz weights.

If your fishing that deep I would defintly go with the powell 804c. The longer rod will really help to get the hook in thw fish better. You will be amazed at how versital that rod is. I wish I had about 4 of them.

I would opt for a 733 or 734. I have both and love them....light, well balanced, and they have the extra length thats nice for C-rig fishing.

You might want to check out the new Dobyns Savvy Series. They are right in your price range. Great quality at a great price!

I'm with basslayer with the 804 recommendation. Fishing that deep the extra rod length is going to really help with hooksets.

Just started collecting Powells. It's the rod I'll look at first from now on when getting any new rod. Best bang for the buck I've found.

I have been using this for C-Rigs lately and it has been working great for me...
Model#: 704 CEF -
Length: 7'0" - Power: Heavy - Power Rating: 4
Line Wt: 12lbs. - 20lbs. - Lure Wt: 1/4oz. - 1oz. - Action: Ex-Fast - Handle: 2

I have a med heavy and a heavy 7'3" that I have'nt tried yet for the C-Rig but the 704 CEF seems to be working solidly.
