"Hybrid Mix" bass in your local lake...GOOD or BAD

Post by Jim Miller »

Just finished reading the latest WON Bass newsletter and on page 14 is shown the first quality "hybrid" I have seen in quite some time as JJGibbs is shown in his photo of a 5.72 large/mouth "hog"!! After thirty five years of fishing Shasta, in the past ten years or so I have caught many "mix" bass with strange appearance. Never of the quality of Mr. Gibbs bass in the photo identified as a "largemouth"/smallmouth hybrid. If you have been chasin bass as many years as I have you are aware of what the "redeye" did to Oroville and on to "slot limit" to attempt to control this disaster years ago! So, to those many who have said that L/M never spawn with S/M..just take a look at the photo!! Are the "mix" breed we see at Shasta now and then....are they S/M Spotted Bass mix?? Let's hear some stories from your local lake on "hybrids"!!

They have the LMB/SMB hybrids at DVL. I have caught a couple of them. I think they are called "meanmouth". Beautiful fish.
