How do you network Lowrance lms 480 Depthfinders

Post by Brian Manthe »

I have an LMS 480 GPS that is approximately 3 years old and a new LmS 480 that I want to network together. Are there certain connectors that are needed to use to network them, or is there something special that I need?

Thanks,
Bassman

puck type antenna. Some hints.....

I had success by contacting Lowrance directly on their website and describing my units, boat and distances between the units. They provided a parts list needed and a diagram for install.
Be aware that....
1. networking WILL allow you to share one GPS antenna between multiple GPS enabled units.
2. the network needs to have it's own DEDICATED and SWITCHED POWER supply from the batterie(s). Think of the network as a stand-alone unit that provides links to others (like the phone company). Each sonar unit still needs its' own power.
3. networking will NOT provide the ability to share one map card between units - they will each need one!
4. you CAN add temp and fuel level and usage sensors to the network.
5. you can only share sonar data by installing a SECOND type of network if your units support it. You CAN provide either unit with dedicated sonar from a single transducer by installing a transducer switch.

Hope this helps. Good Luck. Richard - Sonora
