anyone use a handheld GPS with navionics?
anyone use a handheld GPS with navionics?
I would like to get a GPS with maps of the delta or other lakes but would like to avoid throwing down for full blown new electronics for my boat. I am looking to upgrade my old handheld GPS that I use for hunting but does anyone use these for navigating lakes? Are any of the ones that can download maps decent enough for use on a boat to show you were you are on a lake or in the delta?
Re: anyone use a handheld GPS with navionics?
Ken,
I have a Lowrance iFinder Expedition that I use for misc outings non-boat related. This last weekend I was a non-boater in a tournament and brought the iFinder with me. I took my 2009 Navionics Premium and put it in the iFinder. The map looked great and everything worked fine with one exception, the map refresh is kind of slow. I think the processor of the iFinder is not as fast as the standard finder/gps on your boat. If you don't have a chip in, it's fine because it doesn't have to process all the contour lines.
Occasional use would be fine, but I personally would not be happy with it as my full time gps while in my boat.
