Yes - Offshore racing boats often have 5 blade chopper props for high end speed.

7 blade props are pretty much left to the USN nuclear submarines.

5 or 7 blade on Bassboats - not unless you want to have a 4 mile hole shot.

I have one on my '85 Ranger 370V / '85 Mercury 175hp. The holeshot is AMAZING!!!! I get on pad yesterday....faster than any other boat I have been in. The prop was on it when I bought the boat and I often thought about switching. But I am turning right at 5800 rpms at WOT and thats what a couple different mechanics have told me I should be turning with that motor, so I have just left it alone. Plus it handles GREAT in rough water.

More blades = faster hole shot

I'm running a 25p four blade on my stratos and it jumps right outa the hole. :D

Lugnut is right - great hole shot - top end a bit slower. and I could turn on a dime!!! I used it with the 150-175 Mercs because I would often guide three people and it was easier on the motor. Then I went to 4 blade but now am back to a three blade - no problem with 4 in the boat with my Evinrude ETec.

I ran one on my 202 Champion, 200 mercury for 8 years, it had a great hole shot, a little slower on top end. It was great on Lake Mead because you can come down till you are almost off plane and come right back up, this was great in those 6+ footers in the basin. Only draw back was I through a blade off three different 5 bladders.

I Should have prefaced myself.

The multi blade cleaver type props on the racing boats typically have a very high pitch, as such they take much longer to get to top end.

A 5 blade prop with a lower pitch, as those apparently found on a couple of the boats listed above will indeed give you a neck popping hole shot.

i have family that fishes the great lakes and encounter big water all the time. they run 5 blade props a lot of the time to battle the conditions. they are also using rediculously long trolling motor shafts and wind socks too.
