Contact Richard Smith (lives on the hill right at Jones valley road and Bear valley junction) he has Shasta mounts and knows lots of information. He can either tell you or steer you in the right direction. Bill K :)

You can see record largemouth and I believe the spot too at this Shell Station:

Shell (mini-mart, convenience store, gasoline)
14385 Wonderland Blvd.
Redding, California 96003 (actually in the town of Mountain Gate)
(530) 275-9725

I caught one March 29th that bounced around between 8.5 and 8.8 in the wind and rollers...called it at 8.7. Didnt think to have it officially weighed by DFG as I thought the lake record was 9.2. Huddbaits.com under fish of the month for a picture.

I stuck the little one(5.6ish..again wind waves) the cast before...back to back.

Gotta love swimmers

well I have been hearing around redding large mouth is 13lbs, then i hear on river pirate's web site its 15, then I hear something else, well I am going to DFG monday on my way out on the lake and getting the scoop for sure. I just want to know what it REALLY is like on PAPER registered ya know..i mean large mouth bass is like 22 but a guy foul hooked a 25 and landed it on lake dixon, just looking for up to date records so i know whats out there.

P.s. I seem to have caught bigger bass in my old pond where i grew up on my grandparents land(it was a big pond, but only 5 mile shore line maybe, may be off there not sure) but I got a 9pound large mouth. since I moved away i cant seem to land bigger than 3-4 pounder on shasta which has 365 miles of shore line. just thinkin bigger lake has bigger bass? more food, more room, more??am I off?

Curadodude, are you familiar with "the bass hole" off shasta damn blvd? they have some good info from what I am told. My fishing buddy really likes that place its his go to spot before fishing everytime. I like phils props..think both have same info? one better than the other? keep in mind I just moved to redding a few years ago..still seeing "who's who" ya know

Hey Curadodude, Those are some sweet fish. Spots on swimbaits is the best. I never realized how many 6-9#ers there actualy are in that lake  till I started throwing the bigger baits. I don't Know for sure but I think the lake record spot is just over 9.

Nor, ya have been to both those haunts, good stuff. Cant really say one over the other as I don't visit either very often.

Seth, ya its pretty amazing, I believe there are more than a couple WR's hangin out in that pool. The real crazy part is that 99% of the time I don't THINK anyone is even close to fishing near where the truly large Spots lay low. But when everything lines up it sure can be a day.

15 lbs 9 oz is a possibility

Post by Larry Hemphill »

I don't fish Shasta anymore but do pay attention to possible record fish. I am pretty sure there was a 15 lb 9 oz largemouth caught several year ago - I think in a tournament. A bass like that does create attention. Again - I could be mistaken.
