Trying to find a certain location on Delta
A few years ago, during one of the Pro-Teen tournaments, my boater, who I no longer have contact info for, took me to an area I have never been able to locate on since. I dont remember how we got there, but all I remember was we were only able to get in through a small opening during high tide, and it was a large area with a stretch of trees sticking out of the top of the water, he said it was an old flooded orchard. Do any of you have an idea where im talking about and how I can locate it on a map of the delta!? Thanks! Derrick

Awesome, that rings a bell and sounds familiar, and I remember it being south of Franks! Really appreciate it gentlemen! Now, is there another way in there!? Or is it only through that one spot?

Re: Trying to find a certain location on Delta
From the description, it definitely is Little Mandeville. Cool little place, at times, but other times it is a ghost town.
Just killed the stripers in there for a while late in the year, with some big ones showing on a few of the trips. Very situation-specific though...
Careful going in, and careful navigating around.

Re: Trying to find a certain location on Delta
Derek, if indeed it was Lil Mandy, you will find it on the map, sandwiched between Quimby, Bacon & Holland Tract Islands just to the south of Franks.
Lil Mandy does best fit the faint description you mention. There are infact, 5-6 small openings that you can enter this flooded island on a high tide. There are only 2 openings that you can enter thru on a low tide on the North and East sides. Every year, more and more openings are being created with the fast eroding banks all around this island. Do proceede with caution and at a slow idle with the motor trimmed up no matter which opening ya go thru at all times.
As for the trees, Lil Mandy was not originally an orchard prior to it flooding. The trees that are in there are found all along the inside perimiter(and one down the center running west to east) of the now flooded lake. These trees lined the old roads the farmers used to travel around the farmland prior to flooding.
It is quite possible, your boater could have taken you to Mildred. It too is south of Franks, has a small opening at the NE corner, and indeed does have three large flooded orchards that are 2-5 acres in size. This area in Mildred is MUCH larger than Lil Mandy, and could very well fit what you have described. It is sandwiched between Bacon, Henning & Lower Jones Tracts.

Sounds like the west end of Mildred to me -- a lot of weed growth back there this year.

Re: Trying to find a certain location on Delta
Go to Google and type ion "Mildred Island Delta" when you get that click on satelite. you can zoom in and expand the size or try rolling your click button on your mouse. You can do this same thing with anyother place in the delta or any lake for that matter

Re: Trying to find a certain location on Delta
Interesting. I have only been on the Delta one time for the HBC and your description is exactly the same as I remember it. The guy I was with even pointed out a Tractor's exhaust pipe sticking up out of the water and he did say if I go there be CAREFUL.
I am going to Google it now thanks' Jim.
