Looks like at least two people, need to have some serious gun safety instruction. Number #1 Rulle, is always check chamber to see if it is empty, when you pick up a gun. While pointing it in a safe direction. So simple.. Bill K :)

What an idiot! How much brain power does it take to check your handgun before you take it to the range?

I was there..

The guy was a corrections officer..

He sat his duffle bag down and the chambered round went off hitting the clip in his bag. A large fragment hit the ground and wound up sticking to the back of a lady's pants. The round burnt through her pants and gave her a little cut and burn. She was actually pretty relaxed about it and was saying just make sure it didn't go through her skin.

It was interesting..

Officer must have had a brain fart. He handles weapons so much, he just probably forgot about the one in the chamber.
It happens.
Once I was checking out my fathers 20 gauge auto (Remington Model 11) right after my brother had used it.
Well, he broke off the metal handle that pulls back the reciever and failed to tell anyone there may still be a live round in it.
The gun has a live barrel (the whole barrell retracts back when the shell is expended), so the only was I could open it was to put the butt on the floor and push down on the barrell, ejecting anything still inside.
Well, I pushed it down real hard to open it and the instant it came back up, it discharged (why? I don't know).
Luckily I had the sense to not have any part of my body near the barrell at any time.
My father was in the next room and calmly asked "you ok?", as he walked in and we both looked up inspecting the jagged hole in the ceiling.

In the early 90's I worked at Sears selling tablesaws, and we had a guy in sporting goods on an exercise machine and a loud pop went off...we thought the machine had broke...but we noticed little bits of denim all over the place....he had a concealed weapon go off in his pants...we found a bullet mark on the floor a hole in the ceiling. The bullet had come close to me, and I didn't even know it.
